JOB DESCRIPTION:

The primary responsibility of the Security Officer is to provide a safe and secure environment for hospital staff, patients, and visitors on the Porter Hospital Campus. Security Officers enforce hospital policies, conduct routine and impromptu patrols of the campus, respond to emergent/non emergent call for service promptly. The Security Officer will also provide service to the Helen Porter Nursing Home that is located on site. The Security Officer reports to the Security Manager and or the Director of Support Services.

Duties:
  • The Security Officer will work to provide a safe and secure environment for all Hospital staff, patients, and visitors. The Security Officer will help develop a culture of safety and security at Porter Medical Center.
  • Conducts routine and impromptu patrols of the hospital's interior & exterior on foot as well as monitors the hospitals CCTV system. The security officer will always maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Maintains all hospital issued uniforms and equipment.
  • Wears department issued body armor while on duty.
  • Responds to emergent and non-emergent calls for service promptly and appropriately. *Some of these calls for service may involve encountering verbally aggressive and or physically violent individuals. *
  • Will assist with one-on-one observations of behavioral health patients as required.
  • De-escalates situations as required and to the best of their ability.
  • Maintains the PMC lost and found (logging, intake, release, etc.)
  • Maintains a daily log of all shift activities and files the requisite incident reports as required.
  • Usage of desktop computers, incident reporting systems, camera systems, mobile phones, and access control devices.
  • Conducts initial investigations into security incidents for later follow up by the Security Manager and or Law Enforcement
  • Acts as a liaison between Porter Medical Center and Law Enforcement
  • Monitors the Hospital grounds for criminal activity, suspicious activity/persons, trespassing violations, or other potentially unwanted behavior.
  • Maintains order and enforces hospital policies.
  • Reports all safety hazards as well as reporting all physical plant issues to the facilities department.
  • The Security Officer will follow all organization requirements and ensure that they perform their duties in a safe manner (PPE Use, Isolation, Hazardous Materials, Biohazards, infection control, etc.).
  • Meets all required expectations outlined in the Code of Conduct and meets departmental/facility attendance standards.
  • Completes all required and annual trainings. Also maintains compliance with those trainings.
  • Acts in a courteous and professional manner at all times in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Provides assistance to staff, visitors, and patients when able to facilitate or if certified to perform that request.
  • Demonstrates proper use of all department issued equipment and PMC resources.
  • All other duties as assigned or requested.

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent

Ability to obtain the following employer provided training:
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification within 3 months of hire
  • International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) basic training Certification within 3 months of hire
  • Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training within the first 3 months of hire.
  • Dementia Capable Care (DCC) Certification within the first 4 months of hire.

EXPERIENCE:

• Prior law enforcement or Security experience strongly preferred.
• Prior experience performing security in the healthcare environment also strongly preferred.
