Job Summary

The Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) Engineer plays a crucial role within the Information Security Office (ISO), tasked with enhancing the Security Operation Center's (SOC) efficiency through advanced automation and orchestration solutions. This position aims to accelerate the SOC's ability to detect, analyze, and respond to cybersecurity threats by automating response actions and orchestrating security workflows. Emphasizing the integration of DevSecOps principles, the SOAR Engineer ensures security is woven into every stage of software development and deployment, facilitating a seamless blend of security, development, and operational practices.

Working in close collaboration with cybersecurity analysts, developers, and the SOC team, the SOAR Engineer designs, builds, and maintains sophisticated automation workflows and integrations to improve incident response times and operational efficiencies. This role not only focuses on automating security processes but also champions the culture of security awareness across all IT and development projects. By promoting a 'secure by design' approach and fostering collaboration across teams, the SOAR Engineer bridges traditional security approaches with modern development methodologies, aligning with the organization's overarching DevSecOps goals.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$60,000 - $80,000 annual

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or equivalent degree in information systems, information security, information technology, or closely related field
  • Work experience which included all of the following:
    a. Two years (24 months) in an information security role.
    b. One year (12 months) using coding languages to integrate with information systems and information security solutions for the purpose of automating data processing and automation of technical actions.
    c. using source control solutions to record and track code development activities and changes.
    d. developing scripts and solutions using the PowerShell code language, YAML, or Python.
    e. developing automation within information systems for standard operating procedures to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness.
    f. collecting technical requirements and designing appropriate process and/or software solutions.
    g. managing work within an IT Service Management (ITSM) software program.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Information security experience in higher education or state/local government
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze security requirements and relate them to appropriate security controls

  • Work Hours

    Core Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday; occasional weekend and evening hours as business needs dictate

    The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score.
