Major Duties
  • Reviews and analyzes requests for investigations concerning security clearances, requirements, violations, and assessments.
  • Initiates or performs all required indices checks, arrest records checks, requests Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)/ informational checks to obtain the most complete and relevant information concerning subject(s) of the investigation, acquaintances, employers, relatives, etc.
  • Summarizes data and/or composes necessary correspondence/leads to appropriate field office for initiation of investigation, outlining background of individual case, advising of information obtained, and defining security concerns. Issues leads to be addressed and followed.
  • Conducts security briefings which includes Security Awareness Briefings, Hostile Threat Briefings, and SCI Briefs. Revises security briefings based on the specific issues developed and security requirements.
  • Participate in inspections of Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities and areas designated as secure areas for the processing and storage of SCI and classified material.
  • Participate in security compliance reviews of security program.
  • Review and analyze FBI security policy, Intelligence Communities (IC) Standards, and Presidential Directives to provide objective guidance to FBI personnel.

Specialized Experience:
GS-11: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level.
Specialized Experience is:
  • Utilizing security regulations to plan and develop security assessment investigation analysis and recommendations.
  • Analyzing various types of materials, including investigative reports, to develop recommendations regarding security vulnerabilities.
  • Reviewing, analyzing, and resolving security issues to protect personnel, data, and facilities.
Education
All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. Transcripts are required when qualifying based on education. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:
GS-11: Applicant must have a Ph.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related.
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements provided you can show foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.

  • Relocation expenses will be borne by the selectee, except FBI employees returning from LEGAT assignment. Employees returning from LEGAT assignments must advise the Staffing Unit and Administrative Unit / International Operations Unit of their application for this position.
  • On December 22, 2017, the President signed into law the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. This law may impact your transfer.
  • Candidates receiving a transfer of physical location, whether at the expense of the FBI or not, will be required to complete a one year commitment to the assignment, prior to moving to a new position at the FBI. The 12-month waiting period begins the day an employee reports for duty at the new location.
  • Employees selected for promotions at the GS-12 level or higher, as well as employees selected for positions where a transfer of location is required, will be processed through the name check program prior to being notified of their selection.
