Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

Performs nuclear medicine diagnostic procedures on patients in accordance with physicians' orders .

Essential Duties:
  • Prepares patients for nuclear medicine procedures by explaining procedure to be performed, preparing/administering radio pharmaceuticals, and properly positioning patients for the imaging procedure.
  • Performs nuclear medicine diagnostic procedures on patients in accordance with physicians' orders.
  • Provides images, data analysis, and patient information to the radiologist in a timely manner.
  • Prepares and maintains patient records and files.
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining radiation detection equipment and nuclear medicine examination rooms; performs quality control tests to assure all equipment is functioning properly and initiates corrective action as necessary.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of nuclear medicine supplies; orders supplies as needed.
  • Schedules patient appointments.
  • Leads and/or participates on various hospital committees/task forces such as the Radiation Safety Committee and other customer services initiatives; attends meetings and in-service programs.
  • Trains and conducts in-services on radiation safety and protection procedures for hospital staff.
  • Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, values and customer service initiatives. Adheres to the organization's polices & procedures, and compliance guidelines.


Job Requirements

General Requirements

• American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) nuclear medicine certification or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) licensure is required within one year of board eligibility

• Completion of an accredited Radiology Technology or Nuclear Medicine Technology program

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge and understanding of usage of radio pharmaceuticals and nuclear medicine imaging techniques • Knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards and hospital policies related to the radiology function including HIPAA confidentiality and JCAHO mandates • Written and computer skills necessary to prepare required documentation • Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and other Hospital staff in the exchange of information. The incumbent is also required to communicate technical information in non-technical terms • Analytical ability to calculate radio pharmaceutical concentrations and dosages • Mental ability to adapt and respond to multiple priorities and demands, deal with the emotional needs/concerns of patients, complete multiple nuclear medicine exams in a timely manner, and work on tasks requiring accuracy and attention to detail • Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job
