About the Employer

The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County's most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. Job Summary

OCDE's Disbursement Services Unit is responsible for processing all commercial checks used to make payments for all Orange County school district purchases except salaries. Commercial checks prepared by school district personnel are submitted to the unit for audit and approval. Disbursements orders checks, researches lost or stolen checks, reviews checks for legality, processes voided checks, and registers and prepares checks for delivery to school districts. We are currently seeking an innovative and knowledgeable individual to serve as Senior Accounting Technician. This individual is responsible for reviewing and processing a variety of accounting and financial documents from County school districts and pre-auditing payments prior to disbursement. The person selected must have experience in reconciliation, preparation, maintenance of financial accounting, statistical records, and reports; monitoring, tracking, and posting of budgets and expenditures for departments, programs, funds, and special projects. This position also, provides customer service and assists assigned districts' employees with problem resolution and answers school district and employee questions.

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: • Associate's degree in bookkeeping accounting or a closely related field. • Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in performing financial or statistical recordkeeping; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in an educational institution or public agency is especially desirable.
