GENERAL SUMMARY

Supports the planning office efforts in development and documentation of enterprise-wide strategic initiatives related to clinical services, facilities and operations and is a key participant in the implementation of recommended business strategies and tactics to support enterprise-wide goals and objectives. Provides UAB Health System entities with information, analyses, and recommendations upon which strategic decisions will be made. Responsible for describing market conditions and UAB Health System's market position, as well as analyzing financial information to assist in strategic decision making. Possesses knowledge of numerous data resources and databases required for strategic planning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist leadership with the development and evaluation of new and existing programs and services. Conduct market assessment to determine UAB Health System's current position and opportunities for growth. Analyze inpatient and outpatient data in relation to market demand and competition.
  1. Provide decision-making support and recommendations to executive leadership for new service development, using business intelligence sources including but not limited to population and demographics, physician-to-population projections, anticipated demand, patient origin, utilization trends, payer mix, and market share dynamics.
  2. Utilize data from multiple software programs and database applications to help inform and shape strategic direction.
  3. Conduct intensive analysis of financial information from cost accounting systems to determine financial viability of projects.
  4. Monitor key performance indicators (i.e. volumes, market share, payer mix, service area and financial viability) against benchmarks of organizational success.
  5. Present analysis and insights to key stakeholders.

7. Maintain current knowledge of healthcare planning issues and market conditions and communicate knowledge to key
stakeholders.

8. Coordinate and facilitate the development and compilation of strategic business plans for both existing and proposed services
and programs deemed as a priority of UAB Health System.

9. May have functional staff supervisory responsibilities with support from AVP and departmental leadership.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Position requires a Master's degree in Health or Business Administration and minimum of three years relevant planning or business development experience, preferably in health care.
