Our client is a very well established manufacturer of specialty machinery, and they have an urgent need for an experienced Senior Buyer who can move into a Purchasing Manager's role in a year or two. The issues this person will be heavily involved will be providing leadership in investigating new potential suppliers, improving relationships with existing suppliers in order to greatly improve on time deliveries of materials, and also negotiate costs-They would love it if the person had some experience sourcing from China, but it is not mandatoryThe candidate they seek will be someone with leadership talents to be able to move into the Purchasing Manager role, and be ready to be there for the long term. Ideally will come out of a low volume high mix company, as that is how they manufacture.
Job Description
Job Summary:
Responsible for the procurement of materials for blow molding machinery and products. Responsible to ensure the company operational needs are met, considering price, quality and delivery to ensure the continuity of supply.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Support the management team in achieving cost reductions and quality and delivery initiatives.
• Responsible for following the strategic operating plans to ensure appropriate product availability to meet current and projected market demand.
• Responsible for communicating forecast plans to gain buy-in from sales, supply chain and manufacturing.
• Determine safety stock levels for assigned parts.
• Coordinate meetings with sales and product management to obtain validation on forecasts.
• Maintain and update master files - item master, item branch plant, etc.
• Maintain ABC classifications by SKU number.
• Maintain reorder points and min/max levels by SKU number.
• Administer interplant warehouse transfers.
• Identify potential product shortages.
• Make recommendations for productivity or method improvements.
• Execute PO's to MRP driven plan.
• Follow the standard purchasing process to buy goods and services to ensure an adequate supply of standard items.
• Update PO's with supplier confirmation information (delivery dates, quantities, etc.).
• Process purchase orders and review each for quantity, price, specification and delivery requirements.
• Respond to internal RFIs.
• Coordinate material deliveries into the supply chain to ensure on time delivery of the product.
• Review and react to MRP messages to ensure a steady flow of materials.
• Expedite and/or research missing, late or incorrect orders.
• Monitor and assign ship dates to backordered materials.
• Discuss and resolve pricing, quality or delivery issues with management assistance.
• Quote all non-standard purchase orders needs and new engineering releases.
• Process drop shipments.
• Complete miscellaneous duties as assigned.
• Maintain system lead times accurately

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Working knowledge of supply chain metrics.
• Ability to communicate and coordinate with all levels of the organization.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a cross functional work environment.
• Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in a supply chain related field and at least 5 years of buying/planning experience or at least 8 years of related experience is required.
