GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Communication Program Manager for Nursing and Patient Care Services, the senior communication specialist is responsible for leading, developing and implementing a wide variety of high-impact communication materials for the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital departments of Nursing. This includes managing a highly visible social media account, developing timely messages and other materials for senior nursing leaders, writing newsletter articles highlighting nurses and Patient Care Services staff, drafting web content, and supporting special projects.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter with superb writing, digital and project management skills, attention to detail and a passion for supporting and engaging our employees and patients with clear and compassionate communication.

Collaboration: The senior communication specialist collaborates closely with all members of the Office of Strategic Communication, as well as the External Communications and Digital teams. The specialist is expected to attend routine team meetings to update colleagues on communication activities within Nursing and Patient Care Services and ensure coordination across the team.
Project management: This position also manages and supports special projects, as needed, for key Nursing and Patient Care Services initiatives or other institution-wide projects.
Qualifications
Requirements: 7-10 years of experience in content development and social media management, with proven skills in writing, editing, social media and digital communications. Health care communications experience highly preferred. BA/BS in communications or journalism preferred, with superior writing, digital and project management skills required. Proven ability to achieve under deadline pressure and handle confidential and sensitive issues with discretion.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Role is hybrid. Most work can be completed on a remote basis, but some meetings, event and photo opportunities require coming onto campus. Work occasionally entails urgent or last-minute early morning or evening support.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Social Media:
- Managing an Instagram channel for nurses, including creating and maintaining a content calendar, writing new content and adapting existing content, and working with Communications staff, nurses, nursing leaders, HR and other partners on content development
- Supporting HR and nursing leaders with the use of social media for recruitment strategies
- Monitoring engagement and following up with the appropriate leaders and departments for responding to comments and answering questions
- Tracking analytics and developing strategies accordingly
Nursing leadership communications:
- Supporting the BWFH chief nursing officer and BWH nursing leaders with communication needs, including but not limited to planned messages to divisions and departments; time-sensitive updates on operational or leadership changes, contract negotiations and other matters; talking points; slide decks; and additional materials as needed.
- Leading the development of communications plans to support leaders in their communications to key audiences
Newsletters:
- Interviewing staff and writing articles for BWH and BWFH newsletters for and about nurses and Patient Care Services staff
- Attending events and meetings on campus to take photos as needed for newsletters and social media postings
- Managing a weekly e-newsletter with timely announcements for BWH nurses.

- Knowledge of and experience with current social media platforms
- Proven ability to develop social media strategies and use social media tools for measuring engagement
- Ability to problem-solve, work on multiple initiatives and prioritize to meet deadlines
- Ability to conduct interviews with subject matter experts and produce clear, compelling content tailored to digital newsletters, internal messages and social media
- Ability to use good judgment and handle sensitive and confidential issues with discretion
