In the role of Senior Communications Coordinator, we'll count on you to:

  • Assist in the development of content and communications plans that inspire audiences and drive engagement across various communication channels to elevate thought leadership, people and project work
  • Assist in driving global and local communications strategies by collaborating with internal business partners, creative, marketing and communications teams?
  • Work with engineers, architects, designers and other subject matter experts to develop and write white papers, feature article content, thought leadership articles, and social media posts
  • Ghost write and edit blogs, social media posts, papers and/or presentations by subject matter experts
  • Help develop collateral pieces and other marketing campaign materials
  • Research, write and edit project narratives and case studies
  • Coordinate event management activities
  • Deliver employee training to activate and guide communications throughout the company
  • Monitor industry best practices and maintain a repository of trends and examples
  • Manage communications database information and web-based project management tools (Adobe, SharePoint, Staging Sites, Contact Logs, etc)
  • Coordinate multi-discipline teams in the development and production of deliverables.
  • Perform other duties as needed


Strategic Communication

In the role of Senior Communications Coordinator, we'll count on you to:

    • Build trusted relationships with HDR clients while serving their communication needs including strategy, delivery of stakeholder and public outreach, and identification and management of public relations opportunities
    • Lead the development of content and communications plans that inspire audiences and drive engagement across various communication channels to elevate thought leadership, people, and projects
    • Drive communications strategies by collaborating with internal business partners, creative, marketing, and communications teams
    • Collaborate with engineers, architects, designers and other subject matter experts to develop and write white papers, feature article content, thought leadership articles, and social media posts
    • Craft public-friendly copy to include key project messages, media releases, project materials, website content and video scripts
    • Write and edit print and digital content, social media posts, papers and/or presentations by subject matter experts
    • Develop collateral pieces and other marketing campaign materials
    • Research, write, and edit project narratives and case studies
    • Coordinate event management activities related to public meetings, hearings, open houses, workshops, advisory committees, and/or other stakeholder meetings
    • Manage meeting logistics and provide direction to external vendors and service providers including sub-consultants, court reporters, videographers, and audio-visual providers
    • Travel (up to 30 percent of time) to project locations and lead/facilitate public and stakeholder meetings
    • Lead research related to the identification of stakeholders and coordinate development and ongoing maintenance of stakeholder lists, comment databases, and work back schedules
    • Partner with art directors and the visual communications team (web, graphics, video) to coordinate production and distribution of project-related websites, online meetings, videos, mailings, newsletters, handouts, presentations, advertisements, and press releases
    • Collaborate with the social media team related to strategy, content development, and targeted/paid campaigns
    • Monitor industry best practices and maintain a repository of trends and examples
    • Manage communications database information and web-based project management tools (Adobe, SharePoint, Staging Sites, Contact Logs, etc)
    • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communications skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail
    • Deliver multiple assignments concurrently and meet deadlines
    • Act as a self-starter
    • Embody an attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture
    • Perform other duties as needed


Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in a closely related field, or combination of education and relevant experience in strategic communications, public relations, marketing, public involvement and/or community engagement
    • Master's Degree
    • Writing samples/portfolio that demonstrates experience writing for public relations, web, brochures, newsletters, social and/or traditional media
    • Media relations experience desired
    • Transportation, energy, or water industry experience
    • Preference given to Illinois-based or Indiana-based candidates

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 8 years relevant industry experience
  • Experience leading social media campaigns
  • Service- and client-oriented personality with the ability to handle multiple assignments at a time and set and meet deadlines
  • Self-starter; can work well independently or in a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
