The Enterprise Compliance, Risk, and Governance Division / Investment Compliance Advisory Services Unit is currently seeking an Investment Officer II to build compliance and ethics awareness and drive our CalPERS mission.

CalPERS promotes and supports a culture that builds compliance and ethics awareness into the daily business processes for all program areas. Utilizing their knowledge of investment principles and practices, the Senior Compliance and Risk Officer's duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Providing advice and guidance regarding compliance and risk management areas, including regulatory requirements, regulatory change, and industry best practices
  • Providing feedback on risk inventories, controls and risk assessments
  • Assessing investment market and economic trends, principles and practices
  • Planning and conducting compliance testing and monitoring initiatives that impact CalPERS' divisions
  • Conducting compliance reviews on an ongoing review cycle
  • Reporting summaries of compliance reviews and highlighting opportunities and recommendations to management

This position is eligible for an annual incentive award and Charter Financial Analyst (CFA) pay differential. The annual incentive opportunity is 0-10% of salary and is based on the level of achievement against several quantitative and qualitative measures. Permanent full-time employees who possess certification as a CFA may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  • Experience in the financial services industry, including knowledge of investment programs and asset classes
  • Experience in investment operations, investment compliance, and/or investment management
  • A high degree of initiative, professionalism, confidentiality, and ability to work effectively individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to effectively analyze information to develop and present appropriate recommendations
  • Ability to evaluate programs and identify / develop recommendations for improvement to reduce risks and enhance internal controls
  • Ability to present information clearly, both orally and in writing, to a wide range of audiences
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills and experience with computer applications used in investment analysis and modeling
  • Knowledge and experience with investment principles and practices, investment types, and the ability to apply a variety of investment analysis techniques, including quantitative methods, to critically review investment and financial data
  • Professional certification such as a CPA, CFA, CAIA
