Role Summary

OneTeam is seeking an experienced Senior Counsel of Business and Legal Affairs* to provide legal advice in all matters with respect to business initiatives pursued by OneTeam. This position supports a broad range of general commercial matters and business operations. A proactive, solution-oriented and collaborative approach, attention to detail and superior analytical skills are essential. Significant transactional experience is a must.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft, review and negotiate a variety of contracts across the OneTeam business such as:
    • retail, consumer product, and promotional licenses
    • sponsorship and athlete relations
    • content production, broadcast and distribution, digital media, television and online programming
    • investments, mergers, and acquisitions
    • event-related (e.g., venue, hotel, event management, agency, talent) agreements
      • contest and sweepstakes documentation
    • confidentiality, consent and release agreements
    • terms of use and privacy policies
  • Provide strategic, practical, and timely legal advice to business teams and advise on business risks and issues regarding contracts and other business initiatives
  • Assist in developing contract polices and processes to manage transaction flow
  • Manage forms database and support the continuous improvement of standard form agreements
  • Operate and maintain brand protection and enforcement program, including managing relationships for same with our shareholders
  • Assist with special projects for management, including with respect to Board meetings
  • Attend and represent OneTeam at various meetings, as requested
  • Advise on and oversee regulatory compliance matters and corporate policies
  • Remain informed about current legislation in connection with OneTeam business
  • Other duties as assigned


Key Skills and Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor degree with excellent academic credentials
  • Background at a large law firm preferred, or otherwise at a recognized sports and entertainment boutique and/or in-house legal department with relevant experience
  • Admitted to at least one U.S. state bar, and in good standing to practice law
  • Minimum 6-8 years of transactional experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including strong critical thinking, interpersonal, and public speaking skills
  • Effective legal research and analysis skills
  • Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial transactions (e.g., consumer products, licensing, content development and production, advertising, sponsorship/promotions, athlete marketing)
  • Ability to work independently, but with a firmly held view in success as a team
  • Prior experience supporting a heavy volume of commercial transactions in a fast-paced environment with proactive and solution-oriented approach to resolving issues
  • Adaptability and attention to detail
  • Strong time management and organizational qualifications
  • Professional "can-do" attitude and strong commitment to quality work product, professional ethics, personal integrity, and sound business judgement
  • Open to travel to OneTeam and partner events for various offsites and team meetings, when required


The following skills and qualifications are a plus:
  • 8+ years of transactional experience
  • Admitted to New York, California, or other major commercial market state bar
  • Interest in group licensing and sports law issues (e.g., name, image, and likeness (NIL) rights)


Location: Los Angeles or New York preferred

Compensation
Salary Range: $175,000 - $295,000 + bonus opportunities*

Working Conditions

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Legal Counsel position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods, talk, and hear clearly. The employee will frequently use hands to type, handle documents, and operate standard office equipment. Additionally, the employee may need to reach with hands and arms to access files and documents. The role occasionally requires standing, walking, and stooping. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision for reading and reviewing documents, as well as the ability to adjust focus for varying levels of detail.
