Position Summary

This position is the lead designer on the OMC staff assisting the Director of Creative Services with the intake and execution of design projects. This is a hands-on design position and also has a significant role in communications with key stakeholders across the campus and with external vendors. A highly developed skill set in the use of Adobe Creative Suite (primarily InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) is required in everyday workflow. The Senior Graphic Designer is the primary creative in support of high visibility publications for the Terry College of Business, the art director for Terry Magazine, and serves as the controller for brand/identity communications, making independent decisions working closely with UGA Central MarComm. This person takes a lead role in mentoring and collaborating with new graphic designers in OMC. Responsible for procurement of all printed materials for the college ensuring appropriate quality and budget for each project. Work independently to ensure deadlines are met.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Knowledge and skill of methods, techniques and practices of graphic design and illustration, utilizing Adobe Suite products to include InDesign, InCopy, Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Knowledge on a Mac based platform.
  • Knowledge of departmental print policies and procedures, and printing processes to ensure work volume is managed.

Graphic Design Lead
  • Make independent decisions on design, photography, brand, color, and typography choices for various publications.
  • Serves as a mentor to junior designers in the development of their research approach, concept development and design skills.
  • Under limited supervision from the Director of Creative Services, execute the design of signature print pieces such as Terry Magazine, and collaborates on the Dean's Report and the Accounting Annual Report.
  • Engage with UGA Central MarComm regarding the use and execution of all Terry College logos and supporting brand identify.
  • Upon request and as needed, manage both the reception and distribution of logo files, images and graphic information to vendors, media and other external customers.
  • Document project changes, milestones, and communications in the project management system.
  • Manage and direct the work of OMC design student staff/interns.

Print Production
  • Lead the production process with external print vendors, ensure that complete and accurate files and specifications are provided to vendors.
  • Attend press checks as needed for signature pieces, making final decisions on various production quality and accuracy.
  • Provide print and production expertise/support to the Terry College Community in the areas of vendor selection, paper and production types.
  • Track all communications and documentation in the project management system.
  • Management of customer's budget and quality expectations to ensure projects are assigned to the appropriate vendor to print the items.
