Position Summary

As a Senior Data Engineer at Empower, your role is central to advancing our data infrastructure and catalyzing innovation across healthcare solutions. You will lead the charge in crafting and implementing advanced data architectures, like our cutting-edge data lakehouse, ensuring they not only meet but exceed industry standards. Your expertise in data vault methodologies and Kimball-style warehousing will be pivotal in developing scalable ETL workflows and pipelines, leveraging top-tier visual ETL tools, and AWS Serverless technologies including Lambda, Step Functions, SQS Queues, and DynamoDB.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develops and deploys Cloud-Based Data Solutions. Utilizes expertise in AWS Serverless technologies (Lambda, Step Functions, SQS Queues, DynamoDB) to create scalable, efficient data processing solutions.
• Designs, implements and optimizes ETL Workflows and Pipelines using both visual ETL tools and manual coding, ensuring reliability and efficiency in data integration.
• Develops star schema, datamarts, and other data modeling techniques for optimized data storage, access, and analysis.
• Leverages REST APIs to integrate external data sources, ensuring a comprehensive and seamless data ecosystem.
• Drives data strategy initiatives and contributes to data visualization and insights projects, applying data analytics to support business growth.
• Cleans, organizes, and optimizes data to ensure its quality, accessibility, and readiness for analysis.
• Builds robust data collection and analysis platforms, facilitating insightful and actionable business intelligence.
• Implements and oversees data protection measures, ensuring compliance with data privacy laws and regulations.
• Stays updated with the latest data technologies and methodologies, incorporating innovative solutions into the data strategy.
• Fosters a positive team environment, encourages collaboration, and mentors team members to contribute to their growth and the team's success.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

• Deep expertise in building data models and creating complex queries using SQL.
• Solid knowledge of many / most of the following areas:
  • Relational SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., Postgres, MySQL, SQL Server, DynamoDB, MongoDB, etc.)
  • Deep experience with ETL tools like (Apache Hop, Pentaho, Informatica, AWS Glue, SSIS etc.) and a solid grasp of designing, deploying, and maintaining workflows and data pipelines.
  • AWS Core Concepts (Roles, Security Groups, AWS Lambda (Python), Step Functions, Batch, Kinesis etc.)
  • Data ingestion (e.g., Fivetran or similar)
  • Data warehousing and storage (e.g., Snowflake, RedShift, Vertica or similar)
  • Data transformation (e.g., Dbt or similar)
  • Visual reporting and analysis (e.g., Power BI or similar)
  • A working knowledge of Python
• Strong project management and organizational skills.

Experience and Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, or another quantitative field.
• 8+ years of experience in a Data Engineering role.
• 8+ years of dimensional and relational data modeling experience.
• Experience with database and data warehouse concepts.
• Experience with wrangling, exploring, and analyzing data.
• AWS Data Engineering, AWS Data Analytics, Data Vault 2, Snowflake, Kimball or Inmon Data Modeling preferred.
