Department Summary

HSC Institutional Advancement seeks to advance HSC's mission to create solutions for a healthier community. Through fund development, community education and alumni relations, our goal is to build meaningful relationships that expand opportunities for our students, faculty and programs in ways that transform countless lives.

Position Overview

This position is responsible for taking the lead role in developing and implementing a strategic plan to attract and sustain relationships from corporations and foundations to advance the strategic initiatives of UNTHSC. The Senior Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations identifies, cultivates, and maintains a portfolio of relationships with high-potential corporate and foundation funders and is responsible for securing gifts and building long-lasting partnerships. This Senior Director is the primary liaison between Institutional Advancement and colleagues across campus to ensure that corporate and foundation proposals follow system and campus-wide policies and procedures. The Senior Director is the primary liaison for all foundation cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities across campus and supervises the Assistant Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and seven (7) years related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Understand key issues affecting academic medicine and a university health science center.
  • Strong communication and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in effectively planning, analyzing, and developing effective gift proposals.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience in developing, implementing and monitoring strategic plans.
  • Demonstrated success in executing fundraising activities, identifying prospects, developing strong relationships, cultivating support and stewarding gifts.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of donor information.

Preferred Qualifications
  • An ideal candidate brings a record of proactive identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a corporate and foundation gifts with a blend of complex public university/higher education/health science center advancement experience.
  • Knowledge and experience working in collaboration with faculty and staff in a health science center/research institution and successfully matching research initiatives/academic priorities with large national corporations and foundations.
  • Influential, with effective social skills and a high level of comfort in social settings, corporate and community events, and gatherings. High visibility, both within the organization as well as outside the organization; a willingness to be a representative of UNTHSC in the community.

Job Duties:
  • Works with advancement/development colleagues, faculty, Deans, unit directors, volunteers, administration, and staff to identify and solicit foundation, corporate and corporate foundation support. Cultivates relationships with foundations and corporations, manages proposals for solicitations, and serves as a team member on other relationship teams. Works closely with the UNTHSC Foundation, Advancement Services, and other development colleagues in the preparation of grant proposals.
  • Conducts prospect research and maintains in-depth knowledge of all University policies and priorities. Participates in structured sessions with colleagues to coordinate prospect identification activity, engagement, strategy building, proposal development, solicitation and follow up for engaging national and regional foundations and corporations. Ensures that accurate and up-to-date information is available on these organizations to key stakeholders. Presents timely analysis of corporate and foundation giving trends to ensure strategic planning in this area.
  • Works closely with internal and external partners to promote and solicit funding from viable foundation and corporate partners and prospects. Works collaboratively with the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) and all Colleges/Units. Must be inclusive, collaborative and demonstrate exceptional oral and written communication skills.
