Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Five (5) years of full time progressively responsible experience in executive or leadership communications and/or marketing.Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in English, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field. Experience working with higher education, medical centers, not-for-profit organizations/agencies, or government entities. Experience writing speeches and/or video scripts. Experience evaluating marketing strategies.Brief Description of Duties:The Senior Director of Brand Communications & Brand Reputation will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the University's recently launched brand repositioning campaign is being effectively deployed campus-wide to elevate Stony Brook's brand reputation locally, regionally, and internationally. This position is responsible for working with leaders across every communications discipline, both within the MARCOM department and throughout the university while simultaneously developing working relationships with key divisions and departments, including Enrollment Management, Advancement, Athletics, Student Affairs, and the Provost's office, among others.

Reporting to the VP of Marketing and Communications, the Senior Director of Brand Communications & Brand Reputation will be expected to think both strategically and creatively in order to lead and manage planned brand activations while also being proactive about seizing opportunities that may present themselves. The ideal candidate will be expected to lead teams of diverse disciplines within the MARCOM department, across campus, and with outside partner agencies. The ability to juggle multiple projects with attention to detail and big-picture thinking is essential, as are strong written and verbal communication. Candidates must also have a can-do attitude, be ready to roll up their sleeves without hesitation and demonstrate strong client service instincts.

Duties:
  • Manage and advance the continued success of the recently launched brand repositioning campaign and ensure it is achieving maximum impact internally and externally.
  • Lead and inspire the communication of a cohesive, creative and compelling brand narrative across all platforms and touchpoints.
  • Help maintain the strong cross-campus collaboration that has been deployed in support of the launch of the new brand repositioning.
  • Support the various paid, earned, shared, and owned activations as a brand ambassador.
  • Support as-needed media relations and social media activations to ensure that the brand campaign/narrative is being incorporated.
  • Support as needed internal communications activations to ensure that the brand campaign/narrative is being incorporated.
  • Engage proactively as a member of the MARCOM senior leadership team in support of the high-performance culture being cultivated to meet the needs of the University.
  • Be a model of the key qualities of this high-performance culture: teamwork, accountability, collaboration, and efficiency and performance excellence.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.

Special Notes:This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.

In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
