Job Description

The Senior Director, Patient Services Strategy for Abbvie Patient Services (APS), leads a team of strategic experts, aligned by therapeutic area, with the core responsibility to translate patient journey insights and brand strategies to define, launch and evaluate care model strategies and ensure execution. The senior director leads a team accountable for Abbvie brand care model strategy across the entire enterprise, including our growth platforms of Immunology, NEC, Oncology. This individual is the primary point of strategic interface with the brand VPs and is the main point person for new therapeutic pipeline assets to consult on care model strategy. The Senior Director defines the SGA investment allocation decisions for the financial plan and LRP in partnership with the APS VP. This person will partner with the AbbVie Patient Service teams, Brand Leadership, Market Access, Trade, Legal/Compliance, and additional key stakeholders in influencing the success for patient support strategies and programs.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Lead overall strategy for the Patient Services Portfolio working with key stakeholders on current and future fit initiatives
  • Represent Patient Services in key financial and executive forums (e.g. CSM, SUSTO Think Tank, etc.)
  • Responsible for care model performance, financial feasibility and SGA investment allocation decisions in partnership with VP, Patient Services
  • Participate in relevant brand steering committees providing patient support program expertise in the overall brand plan for new integrated programs
  • Translate patient journey insights and brand strategies to define care model strategies and drive execution for new launch assets
  • Assess the care model strategy and direct the insight discovery activities for newly integrated programs and existing product enhancements
  • Ensure evolution of the care model strategies based upon product life cycle
  • Support the pull through of the care model strategic plan across the APS organization and with key cross-functional partners
  • Establish a team culture that prioritizes sharing care model insights and best practices across the patient services strategy team to identify enterprise actions/capabilities that require investment and pull through across the product portfolio
  • Identify customer, access and program industry trends to enhance current patient support programs
  • Establish and maintain appropriate relationships and cross functional coordination with commercial business partners in sales, managed healthcare, trade and marketing teams
  • Responsible for the people leadership, development and performance management of a large team. Leader of leaders responsibilities.
  • Ability to manage 25% travel


Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hr day) is required

Prerequisite:
  • Requires minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree a plus.
  • A minimum of 10 years in the pharmaceutical industry with expertise in market access, patient support, or marketing leadership, or related commercial function in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry
  • Experience with financial planning processes and P&L acumen
  • Experience leading within a matrix organization required
  • Expertise in specialty pharmaceutical products is preferred.
  • Candidates should have working knowledge of the compliance and regulatory environment for manufacturers in the pharmaceutical space
  • This is an office-based position. This position requires up to 25% travel.

  • Highly strategic, utilizes insights and market experience to define new strategic approaches and optimize existing models
  • Able to communicate strategic vision and hold team accountable to delivering on vision
  • Confidence navigating difficult discussions with brand VPs and leadership
  • Financial acumen / P&L expertise
  • Strong executive presence and performing in high pressure environments
  • Strong writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively plan, prioritize, execute, follow up and anticipate problems.
  • Ability to lead across multiple functions (sales, managed healthcare, trade, marketing).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in fast-paced, deadline driven, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Ability to influence across functions to gain consensus on solutions.
