Job Description
  • Hot Section Engineering (HSE) at Pratt & Whitney is currently looking for an experienced and highly-motivated Structures Engineer to join its team in support of commercial gas turbine engines doing rotor structural analysis. In this role, the Structures Engineer will be responsible for completing technical assessments and analyses necessary to support design, development, validation, production implementation and management of new and operational engines flying across the globe. In this role, the Structures Engineer will be an integral member of a team working tasks and challenging problems focused on engine safety, reliability, capability, robustness and affordability. The Structures Engineer will be expected to lead small teams (including outsourcing) and team with others outside HSE.


The position in Hot Section Engineering NEO/GTFA HPT CIPT structures sees a broad variety of activities dealing with field support on GTFA test engine support, disk and heat shield redesign, and buried flaw lifing updates. Were also working a significant task to upgrade our tools and best practices for running mission lifing analysis with the existing ANSYS models in preparation for PW1100G-JM updates and GTFA certification.

The candidate will have the opportunities to present findings and results to technical discipline chiefs and to leadership chain from CIPT (Component Integrated Product Team) to PCE (Program Chief Engineer). This role offers meaningful and rewarding career development and broadening opportunities for an Engineer looking for a career in the development and implementation of emerging technologies in P&Ws largest commercial engine program in 30 years.

Key Responsibilities:
Perform structural analysis through preliminary & detailed design phases including FEA modeling and stress analysis, strength, fatigue life, crack growth life, vibration, and HCF.
Providing design inputs and balancing risk to structural, performance, weight, and producibility requirements.
Coordinate with others to advance technology and improve engineering standard work processes/methods.
Document and present results to technical chiefs and management.
The preferred candidate will also have strong communication and task leadership/coordination skills.

Work Schedule: Hybrid work from home, with future combination of home and on-site time

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 8+ years of prior relevant experience, OR Masters Degree in a related field and 5+ years of prior relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with ANSYS, also PW lifing tools (PWLIFE, SURCK)
  • Effective Communication Skills (verbal/written); able to work effectively on teams.
  • Experience in rotating equipment structural analysis.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting.
  • Pro-active in helping team stay focused, drive design decisions, and avoid schedule slip
  • Desire for continuous learning and innovation.
  • Experience with running ANSYS, MS Office.
