Pay Range

$170,430 - $218,868 Annually
Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.

Job Description

We are seekinga Senior Environmental, Safey, and Health (ES&H) Process Improvement Engineer who will work with subject matter experts and functional area managers from across ES&H to provide advanced management of ES&H and Institutional Administrative Procedures. You will develop detailed, instructional documents and job aids to ensure the clear, concise, and consistent communication of requirements that inform Lab operations, including Job Hazards Analyses in support of complex programmatic science, R&D, nuclear, explosives, maintenance, and/or subcontractor work. This position is in ES&H Directorate Operations and reports to the Directorate Operations Manager.

You will
  • Act as the ES&H Administrative Procedure SME, identifying requirements, writing governance documents, and conducting assessments to ensure compliance.
  • Provide solutions to highly complex document control process issues and challenges that require in-depth analysis of multiple tangibles and in-tangible factors.
  • Use independent judgment to accomplish Directorate Operations and Institutional management objectives.
  • Train, monitor and direct other document control professionals in applying document control processes.
  • Routinely interact with colleagues, senior management, and organizations across and outside the Laboratory on advanced document control management projects/programs.
  • May serve on internal/external committees representing ES&H management and provide strategic technical advice to management and/or external sponsors.
  • Monitor DOE Lessons Learned for events with an ES&H nexus and provide input to relevant FAMs.
  • Frequently mentor peers as well as less experienced personnel and contribute to identifying and recruiting new staff to LLNL.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • BS degree in engineering, science, ES&H or other related technical field, or the equivalent combination of education and significant related experience.
  • Expert level experience working as a document control manager, process improvement engineer, and/or project manager providing technical solutions to complex challenges.
  • Expert level experience applying advanced knowledge of engineering and ES&H principles and compliance requirements; including significant knowledge of chemical, industrial, explosives, and or radiological hazards.
  • Ability to lead the application and development of creative solutions, principles, theories, and innovative concepts associated with the work control process.
  • Subject matter expert knowledge of highly advanced document control and process improvement concepts and/or best practices.
  • Extensive experience in expert level application and development of technical, business, or operational principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to independently contribute to Directorate Operations technical projects and support of other related programs.
  • Expert communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills necessary to effectively present, explain, and advise senior management, external sponsors, regulators, reviewers, and/or stakeholders.

Qualifications We Desire
  • Expert level experience applying various Human Performance Improvement (HPI) tools for both individuals and work teams (e.g. procedure use and adherence, place-keeping, pre-job briefings, etc.).
  • Expert knowledge of technical work with extensive nuclear and/or explosive safety/safety basis requirements.
  • Expert knowledge of continuous improvement techniques.
