Responsibilities

This position manages all aspects of the maintenance and repair of the University's emergency power supply systems. Responsible for complying with Florida Department of Environmental Protection regulations concerning natural gas and diesel fueled emergency power supply systems. Coordinates inspections, testing, preventative maintenance and repair work with vendors. Responsible for training FSU generator technicians.
  • Manages and performs scheduled maintenance and repairs on the University emergency power supply systems.
  • Schedules and coordinates yearly load-bank testing per NFPA requirements. Maintains necessary service records and regulatory compliance documents.
  • Coordinates with and oversees various vendors that perform preventative maintenance, repair work and inspections of the emergency power supply systems.
  • Manages and schedules rupture basin alarm testing and annual load bank testing with vendors to comply with NFPA codes and Florida DEP requirements.
  • Manages service contracts and creates work orders and purchase requisitions.
  • Serves as a member of the department's management team participating in strategic planning to develop and implement projects and programs to assist in accomplishing the established goals of the department.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives and short-and-long range master planning and capital budget planning.
  • Responsible for training and mentoring all other FSU generator technicians.
  • Creates and assigns work orders to the other generator technicians.
  • Assists in decision-making and maintains necessary supplies to handle emergency situations.
  • Performs other duties as required in support of Facilities Maintenance.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience related to the duties of this position; or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to two years in the same.
(Note: Technical or vocational degree in appropriate mechanical trade area may substitute for experience at an equivalent rate.)
Knowledge of and ability to safely operate machinery, tools, equipment, and materials used in area of work.
Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
Ability to utilize problem and technical-solving skills.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
A valid Florida or Georgia driver's license or ability to obtain one prior to hire.
