Job Description

Works with fresh and fixed tissue for histologic and immune-histologic processing and handling. Coordinates and prioritizes laboratory activities.

Duties:
  • Performs routine and special staining techniques of histological sections as well as immunohistochemistry and advanced techniques.
  • Places specimens in proper fixation material when needed, embeds and sections tissue and mounts on slides for examination.
  • Prepares solutions and reagents in accordance with standard procedures.
  • Use microscope to collect images from stained slide.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.


Job Requirements

Required Education: High School diploma or GED AND:
  • 12 months experience as a Histology Technician or closely related experience.

Skills:
  • Knowledge of Pathology.
  • Knowledge of specialized laboratory equipment and staining techniques.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Must have strong dexterity skills to grasp, manipulate, or assemble small objects.
  • Ability to multitask and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to see details at close range.

Certifications:
  • Certification as a Histology Technician by the Board of Registry of Medical Technologists of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists

Advertised Physical Requirements:
  • Physical: Standing for prolonged periods. Manual dexterity. Ability to engage in repetitive motion. Ability to move or lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Environmental: May be exposed to biohazardous materials, blood borne pathogens, or chemicals.
