Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Senior Hydraulic Structural Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in structural engineering as it relates to projects resolve problems of greater scope and complexity
  • Work closely with our Dams Levee and Civil Works team to develop scopes of work, budget estimates and implement project analysis work plans
  • Write and edit specifications, select procedures, materials and their respective sizes, and complete necessary calculations for various structure types such as floodwalls, dams, water control structures, hydraulic gates, floodgates, spillways, retaining walls, sheet pile walls, cofferdams, and drainage structures
  • Assist with condition assessment for various hydraulic structures
  • Plan and develop projects or design activities
  • Plan, organize and supervise work of medium to large staff of professionals and technicians
  • Serve as Project Manager on larger projects, though project management is not sole focus of position
  • Conduct structural analyses, evaluations and designs; develop design options or recommendations with supporting calculations
  • Review structural documents and coordinate design with all disciplines
  • Develop design plans, sections and details as part of multi-disciplinary design teams for civil works projects. Conduct design development and contract document work sessions in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines
  • Perform engineering assignments that may require critical thinking and creativity to address unique design elements that have limited engineering manual or code-based guidance
  • Independently coordinate the work of the structural design team through the design development and contract document phases of a project
  • Establish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance and comment resolution
  • Provide structural engineering services during construction including construction observation, inspections, submittal and RFI reviews, and ITC responses
  • Knowledge of construction document preparation including drawings, specifications and cost estimates
  • Coordinate with the project leads to implement measures to successfully meet all project goals and objectives
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Perform other duties as needed


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years structural engineering experience as it relates to building design
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar analytical software
  • Experience in design calculations and layouts
  • Ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry and wood
  • Requires understanding of gravity analysis and lateral analysis
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Architectural Engineering or Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
  • Aptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience preferred with computer applications in Civil Engineering; (Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation, MathCAD, Risa 3D, MATLAB, Revit, Staad Pro, LS-DYNA, TrueGrid, and SAP2000)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the field of structural engineering analysis and design with a focus on hydraulic structures under USACE and/FERC structural design criteria
  • Previous structural inspection, and FERC Part 12, or FHWA Bridge Inspection Certifications
