Position Summary

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer at Empower, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and sustaining our robust Information Technology (IT) landscape, ensuring that our infrastructure solutions meet and exceed the company's IT and security standards. This position is crucial for maintaining the reliability and efficiency of our systems, directly supporting our commitment to quality, innovation, and exceptional service. Your expertise will be instrumental in designing and deploying infrastructure initiatives that keep our operations running smoothly and securely, helping us to continue delivering high-quality health and wellness medications to our clients.

In this dynamic role, you will provide technical leadership to the IT team and other stakeholders, guiding them through complex infrastructure projects and issues. Your ability to troubleshoot and resolve intricate problems swiftly will be essential in maintaining seamless operations. By recommending and implementing innovative technologies and tools, you will enhance the performance, scalability, and reliability of our on-premises infrastructure, directly contributing to our innovative edge in the industry.

You will be responsible for building and maintaining a robust server and storage infrastructure, managing systems such as VMware vSphere and Citrix Virtual Apps, and provisioning virtual desktops and applications for our diverse user base. Your role will involve staying abreast of the latest virtualization technologies and best practices, ensuring that Empower's infrastructure remains at the forefront of technological advancements. Additionally, you will deploy and manage secure network connectivity, support disaster recovery strategies, and enforce best practices in infrastructure management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engineers and implements infrastructure solutions that align with the company's IT and security standards, business continuity standards, and best practices.
  • Designs and deploys infrastructure initiatives across the organization.
  • Provides technical guidance to the IT team and other stakeholders on infrastructure-related issues and projects.
  • Ensures compliance with policies, procedures and regulations regarding infrastructure operations, maintenance, and security.
  • Recommends innovative technologies, tools, and vendors to improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of the on-premises technology infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex infrastructure problems, incidents, and outages quickly and effectively.
  • Builds and maintains server and storage infrastructure.
  • Manages and maintains systems including VMware vSphere, Citrix Virtual Apps, and the Desktop environment.
  • Provisions and deploys virtual desktops and published applications for both local and remote users.
  • Leverages VMware based virtual servers to quickly deploy, grow and provide resiliencies for all Empower applications and services.
  • Stays abreast of the latest virtualization technologies, practices, feature sets and shortcomings to constantly improve functionality and performance.
  • Assists in the design, implementation and maintenance of network and infrastructure equipment requiring specialized systems and network skills including physical servers, enterprise storage, switching/routing equipment, firewalls, and other various hardware.
  • Deploys, monitors, and maintains secure local area network and wide area network connectivity to ensure communication between all sites, services, workstations, and field equipment.
  • Analyzes and implements techniques, tools, and best practices for the most efficient means to improve performance, reliability, and the resolution of infrastructure problems.
  • Manages patches and update deployment to all servers, network equipment, end user workstations and 3rd party applications.
  • Maintains server and security audits, system backup procedures and other recovery processes in accordance with Empowers disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
  • Develops and reinforces best practices for the design, deployment, and management of infrastructure services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the workday and frequently use their hands and fingers to handle or feel in order to access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The employee is regularly required to move about the office, around the corporate campus/properties. The employee must frequently move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 25 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Knowledge and Skills

  • High-level of proficiency with virtualization using VMware, Virtual Apps, Desktops, and associated technologies including VMware vCenter.
  • Ability to operate networking technology including routing, switching, subnets, virtual private networks, and software-defined wide area network and integrate with the computer infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise server and storage infrastructure with Dell/Electromagnetic Compatibility storage and Compellent experience a plus.
  • Practical understanding of various enterprise technologies such as Email and Email Security, including spam filtering, Advance Threat Protection, Voice over IP and general telephony, backup and recovery, productivity and collaboration, databases, and various cloud offerings.
  • Knowledge of Amazon web services, Azure, or other related cloud platforms is a bonus.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, or another quantitative field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in an Infrastructure Engineering role.
  • Minimum of 8 years of virtualization engineering and/or cloud experience.
  • Experience with Infrastructure design and implementation for scalability.
  • Experience IT infrastructure, hardware installation and development regarding contact center infrastructure, contact center metrics and user experience.
  • Experience with Cisco Meraki, Aruba witching, and Wi-Fi, radio data system, and/or Fortinet preferred.
  • Experience with Windows domain administration including Group Policy, File and Print Servers, distributed file system, domain name system and dynamic host configuration protocol.
  • Experience with Office 365, Exchange Online, Azure Active Directory, and other Microsoft cloud-based services.
  • Preferred certifications or learning certificates for: Cisco Certified Network Associate, VMWare Certified Professional, Information Technology Infrastructure Library Foundation, Amazon Web Services or Azure Associate, CompTIA Server+.
