The Integrated Systems group develops automation solutions that increase the safety and efficiency of our fulfillment operations. Our products are deployed across the Amazon Fulfillment Network, automating material flow to reduce operational costs, increase throughput, reduce packaging, and enable consistent quality. Our products are integrated into broader solutions that sort, pack, and label items and packages globally.

The Mechatronics and Sustainable Packaging organization is seeking a Senior Interdisciplinary Systems Engineer to join a dynamic team that provides leadership for concept development, architecture, and design of robotics systems and industrial equipment. In this role, you will:

Define, expand, and explore the design space for complex, multidisciplinary robotics and automation problems

Identify and analyze the cross-functional tradeoffs between design alternatives, including impact on performance, schedule, cost, risk, complexity, and scale

Break down and frame problems using con-ops, use cases, structural/functional decompositions, and other system representations to clarify needs and align technical teams

Identify design choices to ensure our products are safe, reliable, and usable, and can be deployed and supported at Amazon scale

Build quantitative models and analyses (Excel, FlexSIM, internal tools) to conduct trade studies, refine requirements, and understand key system drivers across the integrated systems of systems

Develop and communicate system integration and evaluation strategies and plans in support of program learning, technical risk reduction, verification, and validation

Mentor junior engineers in engineering best practices, and participate in hiring of new team member

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience with eliciting and clarifying business and end user needs, and connecting those needs to system concepts, requirements, and designs

- Experience leading technical collaborations and creating alignment across diverse groups (e.g. hardware engineering, software engineering, program management)

- Experience identifying and analyzing dependencies, tradeoffs, and sensitivities across multi-disciplinary systems

- BS or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, Physics, or another STEM discipline

- 7+ years of experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience with industrial robotics and automated material handling solutions

- Experience with machine learning systems

- Experience developing and supporting hardware/software systems across the product life cycle

- Experience with scalable production systems

- Experience with developing safety-critical systems and supporting related regulatory compliance needs

- Experience with 1 or more relevant domains: Industrial Automation, Robotic

- Vehicles/Manipulation, Autonomy, Perception and Controls

- 9+ years of experience in integrated system design

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
