Under the direction of the Maintenance & Operations Supervisor I, the incumbent will lead and train a crew of permanent and temporary maintenance and janitorial employees and work closely with the maintenance crew in the general maintenance and upkeep of the buildings and grounds. The incumbent is responsible for adequate allocation of time and tasks for themselves and other maintenance, janitorial, and 119-day employees, which includes general maintenance of the facility, preparation for the annual Grand National Junior Livestock, Horse Show and Rodeo, and set-up and tear down of year around events held on the facility.

• Ensure the maintenance of all restrooms, buildings, and equipment in a clean, safe, orderly, operative, and properly functioning manner prior to, during, and after all events.

• Keep Event Coordinator informed of any and all changes/updates with renters.

• Direct the setup, removal and storage of chairs, tables, and other equipment for event rental usage.

• Direct staff in the maintenance and operations of grounds and facilities for all interim events.

• Review event sheets provided prior to event date. Review the time, material, and equipment used by various events to establish proper charges to be made for each event.

• Perform the most difficult maintenance tasks and upkeep of all buildings and grounds throughout the year to include but not limited to: painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, concrete, roofing, tiling, flooring, landscaping. Responsible for inspecting the buildings and grounds for needed repairs and informing Supervisor of any needed repairs.

• Perform and ensure the cleaning and repairs of existing buildings, fences, halls, equipment, risers, and other production equipment are finished appropriately.

• Apply common methods and practices to materials and equipment used in construction and general maintenance.

• Work with plans, blueprints and/or specifications.

• Work closely with the Supervisor in the direction and training of permanent and temporary employees in a variety of buildings and grounds maintenance tasks.

• Operate types of equipment included but not limited to: cars, trucks, dump truck, water truck, Bobcat, loader, forklift, scissor lift, garbage truck, jack hammer, saws, compressors, sprayers, scrubber, street sweeper, boom truck, blowers, etc. and will be required to clean and care for equipment.

Working Conditions

The duties of this position are both indoors and outdoors, working in all types of weather and in various buildings on the facilities. The employee will be required to operate various equipment in order to complete job assignments, including but not limited to: a truck, forklift, loader, bobcat, scissor lift, boom, chain saw, blowers, etc., while performing duties. This employee is provided a radio to communicate with fellow employees and to report any emergency to supervisor or management.

The incumbent will be required to work on holidays, weekends, and odd or irregular hours, as needed.

Department Information
The 1-A District Agricultural Association, (DAA) Cow Palace Arena & Event Center consists of approximately 68 acres with a 16,000 seat arena, 2- 50,000 square feet halls, 6 - 20,000 square feet halls, various additional buildings, warehouses, maintenance shops, outdoor horse arena, stockyards and 3 parking areas. The Cow Palace Arena & Event Center produces the annual Grand National Junior Livestock, Horse Show and Rodeo as well as operates as a multi-purpose, multi-functional, year-round facility accommodating a variety of interim events which preserves, promotes and showcases the area's agriculture and other talents of its culturally diverse communities.
