Summary:

  • The Senior Manager of Data Architecture is responsible for establishing and maintaining data standards to ensure consistency, quality, and integrity of data products across the organization. This position requires strong leadership skills, deep expertise in data architecture, and a commitment to promoting effective data management and governance practices. The Senior Manager oversees a team of ~6 data architects, and reports to the Associate Vice President of Data Management.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategy Development and Execution: Contribute to the development of PennDnA's data management strategy. Lead multiple complex projects, allocating resources, solving problems, and adjusting plans to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Data Standards and Governance: Develop and enforce data standards in alignment with Data Governance policies and industry best practices. Establish and enforce processes and procedures for data quality assurance and compliance monitoring. Develop standards to define and record metric definitions with a product mindset.
  • Data Catalog Management: Develop and maintain comprehensive data catalogs documenting data assets, metadata, and data lineage. Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation of data sources, data definitions, and data relationships. Facilitate the discovery and understanding of data assets by stakeholders across the organization.
  • Data Architecture Design: Lead the design and implementation of data architecture solutions to support business objectives and requirements. Collaborate with data engineers to define data models, schemas, and data integration patterns. Evaluate emerging technologies and trends in data architecture to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Team Management: Manage a team of ~6 data architects. Provide direction and feedback. Monitor employee engagement and design interventions, as needed. Contribute to a positive team culture that promotes excellence.
  • Stakeholder Management: Engage with stakeholders across the organization to understand data requirements and priorities. Collaborate with PennDnA colleagues and internal clients on project execution. Work to understand needs, refine requests, and make recommendations. Negotiate project parameters, when needed. Advocate for data architecture principles and best practices, promoting a culture of data-driven decision making.
  • Continuous Improvement: Look for opportunities to optimize data engineering processes and workflows. Implement best practices and standards to ensure the accuracy and reliability of enterprise data. Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in data engineering, incorporating relevant advancements into organizational practices.

    Education or Equivalent Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. (Required)
    • 5+ years of experience in data architecture, with a proven track record of leading a team to execute large complex data engineering projects. Experience working with data from Electronic Health Records (EHRs). (Required)
    • Master's degree. (Preferred)
    • 1+ years of experience with Epic EHR. (Preferred)

    • Healthcare knowledge: Knowledge of healthcare data, regulations, compliance requirements, and data privacy standards.
