The Precision Medicine and Diagnostics team is responsible for providing franchise-level marketing support on companion diagnostics (CDx) and biomarker functions, executing CDx tactics in the field, and contributing to product development in the diagnostics space for pipeline assets. This group works collaboratively with other US Commercial Oncology teams to contribute to the development of brand plans and works alongside AbbVie internal and external partners to develop CDx strategies and deliver tactical execution for Precision Medicine & Diagnostic Marketing.

The Oncology Diagnostic Senior Manager will lead a team of Oncology Diagnostic Liaisons (ODLs) responsible for interacting with pathology departments, diagnostic laboratories, lab personnel and other stakeholders responsible for implementation and execution of biomarker testing.

In addition to leading and managing a highly skilled and technical ODL team, this individual will both help guide testing strategy with Commercial Oncology Precision Medicine & Diagnostics leadership and execute on tactical plans with other internal and external teams (Strategic Account Managers, Oncology Specialists, external expert marketing, diagnostic and reference laboratory partners, and other stakeholders). Separately, this individual will be responsible for developing and maintaining leadership level strategic business relationships with key customer segments, including diagnostic laboratories, pathology and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Highly integrated with Precision Medicine & Diagnostics leadership, this individual will be responsible for identification and pull-through of innovative opportunities to drive biomarker testing in appropriate markets (IDN, etc.). Business relationships will be focused on supporting efforts around increasing education on companion diagnostic tests, supporting test availability and test quality, and integration of standardized biomarker testing, including within EHRs, to ensure accurate and timely identification of appropriate patients. This role will report into the Director of US Commercial Precision Medicine & Diagnostics.

Major Responsibilities
  • Managing Oncology Diagnostic Liaisons (ODL) and regional reference lab partnerships
  • Identifying and developing external relationships with pathologists, laboratory decision makers, precision medicine champions and other key testing stakeholders
  • Coaching ODLs on the delivery of technical data presentations and education of key stakeholders
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, access to, and the ability to influence key biomarker testing stakeholders in targeted accounts (Pathologist, Lab Director and personnel, EHR champion)
  • Acting as overall ODL liaison to support Commercial Oncology & Sales leadership/teams, working internally with ODLs, SAM, OS, and MSLs to execute on tactical plans; working externally to coordinate with diagnostic partners as appropriate
  • Collaborating with internal Brand teams to support in-market CDx testing excellence and insights for all product launches, including market readiness evaluation
  • Working with internal Commercial Oncology Precision Medicine & Diagnostics leadership to help develop and execute on the national diagnostic strategy for AbbVie's oncology portfolio
  • Mastering technical & market knowledge related to oncology Dx testing (e.g., IHC, FISH, NGS) and how it fits in the treatment paradigm of targeted therapies and/or genomically-defined tumors
  • Helping to identify issues in current testing landscape; identify and work with relevant stakeholders to remove or minimize diagnostic barriers to therapy use
  • Guiding and supporting ODLs in account specific testing operationalization, including EHR integration
  • Participate in the annual budgeting process to ensure appropriate funding in order to deliver on brand objectives and oversee the use of this budget
  • Tracking monthly field team metrics, monitoring account progress across continuum of operational maturity and co-developing and co-implementing strategies and tactics with leadership to elevate metrics
  • Contributing to the establishment of a successful commercial ODL field team; leading a culture of collaboration and in-field team excellence
  • Promoting a culture of compliance and ensuring adherence to relevant policies and procedures related to planning and executing ODL field engagement
  • Acting as a mentor to shape the professional development of individual ODL reports and providing leadership for continuing improvement in the collective knowledge and skill set of the ODL team and support of the overall commercial organization


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree; advanced degree in life sciences preferred
  • 6+ years diagnostics (IVD or laboratory industry) experience in a customer-facing role; oncology experience highly preferred
  • 4+ years in a field-based supervisory role (sales, scientific/medical affairs, and/or technical support)
  • Demonstrated clinical and business acumen in oncology and diagnostics
  • Experience / comfort discussing scientific content and supporting operational workflows
  • Thorough knowledge of diagnostic market: trends, technologies, regulatory environment
  • Proven experience with various external customers including prescribers, payors, diagnostic laboratories at the senior leadership & executive levels
  • Established relationships with diagnostic laboratories, oncologists and/or pathologists, precision medicine department leaders highly preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 80% of the time
