General Summary/ Overview:

Responsible for oversight and management of the radiology/imaging department at McLean. Ensures smooth operations management of the department, effective budgetary and strategic results, and subject matter expert. Responsibilities include compliance of regulatory and industry trends as well as education of radiology changes and improvements for staff and other leadership.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide operations management, identify operational inefficiencies, operational flow, quality improvement, performance measurement, and implementation of new practice

• Ensure compliance with patient care quality standards and all related regulatory requirement

• Management of clinical staff, staff scheduling, triage duties, and is a resource to staff

• Development of fiscal operating budget, ongoing assessment, investigating practices to remain within the budget and opportunities for improvement, and assists in variance reporting

• Management of clinical activities for students to ensure they are meeting core curriculum requirements and encourage opportunities for future employment within MGB

• Ensures compliance of all regulatory obligations (federal, state, etc.) and industry trend

• Performs other duties as assigned

• Complies with all policies and standard

• Serve as the site Clinical Business Analyst for the MRI department in Epic, focusing on the Radiant build at MCL.

• Directly manage scheduling and front desk staff and operations, despite most locations having a dedicated manager for these responsibilities who reports to the Radiology Manager.

• Act as the on-site clinical PACS resource.

• Oversee research imaging and ensure study protocols are implemented and staff are properly trained, including:

  • Epic research billing reviews
  • MR safety screening
  • Exam protocol length
  • Selecting the correct scanner resource
  • Ensuring availability and training on non-scan equipment
  • Overseeing workflows and transitions between appointments
  • Proper exam room usage


• Oversee and/or directly troubleshoot various equipment related to MRI research scanning.

• Participate in the MRI Safety Committee for both MGB and MCL:

  • MCL: Focus on research activities, including screening and education for non-MR scanning staff (Environmental Services, Facilities, Local Fire Department).
  • MGB: Stay updated with policies and training, and implement changes agreed upon by MGB entities, aligning with the responsibilities of other MRI managers.


• Maintain certifications with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiology and MRI, and with the American Board of Magnetic Resonance Safety (ABMRS) as an MR Safety Officer (MRSO).

Supervisory Resonsibilities:

• 14 FTEs; Including 1 Supervisor.

Fiscal Responsibility:

• Monthly reporting to department directors on revenue, and factors affecting revenue. Minimize expenditures by reducing waste, keeping department supplies at a reasonable level. Assists with planning of annual departmental budgets.

• Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by effectively using Mass General Brigham McLean resource

Working Conditions:

• Mixed clinical and research environment. Staff have exposure to large magnetic fields, radio frequency and noise, possible exposure to patient/ research participant body fluids or carriers of contagious infections. Must be able to work independently. Subject to stressful situations. Failure to follow established procedures and safety practices could result in damage to equipment, personnel (including self) or patient injury or death.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• Radiology technician experience with multiple patient populations; 10+ years required.

• Leadership experience; 5-7 years required.

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Diagnostic Imaging or Health Sciences required.

• Demonstrated knowledge of research methodologies, healthcare systems, and regulatory requirements is advantageous.
