Responsibilities

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Senior Manager, Student Affairs, plans, organizes, and directs the day-to-day operations of the School of Nursing Student Affairs Office (SAO) under the direction of the Associate Dean for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. The Seniro Manager is responsible for student life, student advising, student retention, student support services, and student activities. The Senior Manager also works closely with the Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management to ensure the seamless transition and engagement of students from admission to program completion. The successful candidate will work collaboratively to ensure that all student-related activities reflect the school's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The Senior Manager, Student Affairs supervises three staff members in the Student Affairs Office. The Office fosters a welcoming and supportive community for all students at the University of Rochester School of Nursing. As student success advocates with an open-door policy, the Student Affairs team employs a holistic approach that encourages students to connect beyond their academics, challenge them as they cultivate a foundation of resilience, and empower them as they navigate through their journey as healthcare professionals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative
  • Oversees the daily operations of the Student Affairs Office. Directs and supervises staff, provides leadership and vision for the office, and works in close liaison with program directors, faculty, and administrative leaders.
  • Ensures access to quality and effective learning support services for student success and retention across programs, including the Center for Academic and Professional Success (CAPS) and other student resources.
  • Collaborates in the coordination of orientation, financial support, student experience, academic support, retention, and degree/goal attainment to fulfill the School of Nursing's mission and students' educational goals.
  • Develops and implements strategic planning for student affairs in collaboration with other School of Nursing (SON) program directors, faculty, and administrative leaders.
  • Responsible for key aspects of student retention and student life experiences.
  • In conjunction with the Associate Dean for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, oversees the student formal complaints process.
  • Works collaboratively with Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management to provide a seamless transition from student enrollment to successful program completion, including the reporting of student data from prospects and enrollment through degree completion.
  • Oversees student compliance from matriculation to degree completion and provides strategic direction of systems improvement, procedures, messaging, and documentation.
  • Manages administrative needs, resource needs, and budgetary needs needs in collaboration with the Senior Education Administrator and Associate Dean for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.
Student Services
  • Oversees student advising for all undergraduate and graduate programs by reviewing existing systems, connecting with advisors on current practices, and developing and refining training and curriculum
  • Leads advisor training and professional development for all faculty advisors.
  • Coordinates a team of faculty coaches who provide academic, clinical, and professional support services that meets the needs of SON students through CAPS.
  • Works closely with student groups to increase their awareness and use of resources that support their development, success, and satisfaction.
  • Collaborates with ADA Access Coordinator to ensure student accommodation needs for students with disabilities are addressed.
  • Engages with the other student services such as admissions, financial aid, and registrar to ensure that students access support resources.
  • Collaborates with the leadership, faculty, and the admissions office to support diversity and inclusion of the student body and participates in School of Nursing diversity planning and implementation of student diversity initiatives.
  • Implements strategic proactive student support initiatives
  • Collaborates with program directors and administrative leaders to facilitate exit processes, including focus groups, interviews, and exit surveys.
Community Engagement
  • Represents and supports School of Nursing in community engagement activities, including orientation, pinning, and graduation ceremonies, by providing administrative oversight and logistics coordination with School of Nursing, university departments, and community groups
  • Collaborates with academic program directors, course faculty, Associate Dean for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, and school's financial office to develop educational and service-learning activities.
  • Participate on SON and university-wide committees to advocate for and support student success at the School of Nursing.
  • Collaborates with URMC hospital partners regarding UR nursing scholars program, including scheduling mentoring sessions and job fairs.
Data and Reporting
  • Responsible for department annual reports, department strategic plan operations, and metrics.
  • Leverages data and assesses students' needs to create and enhance programs and services offered at SON.
  • Assesses and monitors student success and cohort retention rates to respond to their academic and support needs, in collaboration with the Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management and Associate Dean for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Master's degree in higher education student services, higher education administration, nursing, or related field preferred. Six years of related senior administrative experience in student affairs preferred.

  • The successful candidate will have senior-level student affairs experience and/or experience in higher education with a proven track record of success. Specific areas of expertise include academic advising, student engagement, retention inititiaves, and experience working with diverse student populations required.
