Position: Senior Manufacturing Engineer - New Assembly Line Start Up

Location: Cedar Rapids, IA Area

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Manufacturing Engineer to focus on the setup, launch, and support of a new assembly line at our Cedar Rapids, IA facility. This role involves managing the planning, execution, delivery, and startup of the assembly line, ensuring the project's success and quality.

Primary Responsibilities:

Planning and Start-Up:
  • Provide detailed input to project plans, schedules, and capital budgets.
  • Evaluate the entire assembly process, including component fit, fixturing, process parameters, and equipment.
  • Develop detailed process requirements and necessary tools/equipment for consistency and quality.
  • Guide industrial engineering staff in the successful launch of the process.
  • Generate required process data to drive ERP and MES systems.
  • Collaborate with the industrial engineering team to plan, purchase, install, and implement efficient resource use.
  • Complete or coordinate safety risk assessments and safety lifecycle throughout development, installation, and start-up.
  • Perform quantitative process assessments and capability analysis to validate production readiness.
  • Support trial builds and gather process feedback for evaluation.
  • Qualify equipment, tools, and processes in areas of responsibility.

Ongoing Production:
  • Monitor assembly line processes, analyze elements not in control, and lead continuous improvement efforts.
  • Review production data, identify needs for new equipment, and support capital projects with necessary data.
  • Identify opportunities for lean manufacturing improvements and lead improvement projects.
  • Support cross-functional staff to sustain production processes regarding quality, safety, reliability, and design.
  • Assist the production team with equipment troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Review, analyze, and manage engineering change requests supporting the assembly and manufacturing process.


Qualifications:

Education:
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Experience:
  • Required:
    • Minimum of 5 years in a Manufacturing Engineering in an assembly oriented manufacturing setting with progressive responsibilities.
    • Thorough knowledge of product conveyance and material handling systems, including robust system design and functional safety.
    • Experience with time standards and work instruction generation.
    • Experience with the assembly of electro-mechanical products.
    • Experience with task-based safety risk assessment and validation.
    • Ability to analyze product flow and generate efficient layouts.
    • Ability to interface with all organizational levels, internally and externally.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience with SPC.
    • Understanding of Takt and time standard generation.
    • Experience installing and starting up various assembly processes.
    • Experience with MES and ERP systems.
    • Working knowledge of GD&T principles.
