Position Summary:
The Senior Medical Record Assistant files and maintains medical documents and correspondence as received in the appropriate patient medical record. The incumbent also maintains workflow and productivity by assigning and reviewing work, answering questions, and resolving problems in the unit. Salary Range:
Hourly Rate Minimum $21.65 Midpoint $25.11 Maximum $28.57
Responsibilities:
Prepares paper documentation for scanning in accordance with established procedures
Operates scanning equipment according to established procedures to convert information on a paper document into a digital image that can be accessed and viewed by a computer terminal
Performs daily maintenance of the scanner and calibrates scanner for proper image quality. Troubleshoots scanning equipment as needed
Ensures appropriate information exists for selecting to the appropriate episode and patient
Differentiates documents with bar codes from those without and prepares cover sheets for those lacking bar codes
Prepares documents by grouping like documents and patient information together in accordance with established procedures for successful access and retrieval.
Required Qualifications:
Must maintain work product accuracy standards of 95% or better
Must work in accordance with HIPAA
Good eye-hand coordination to be able to page through stacks of paper and quickly observe misfiles
Computer operating skills to include login and logoff, opening, closing, saving and copying files and printing documents
Able to locate patient name and select correct episode for type of record to be prepped
Able to correctly save work performed on electronic files
Ability to perform job functions and make task-related decisions with limited direct supervision
Ability to learn to calibrate, maintain and troubleshoot scanning equipment
Prior experience working in an acute care hospital medical record department
Good keyboard skills with ability to accurately transfer information from eye to keyboard without transposing information
Preferred Qualifications:
HIM department experience
Knowledge of medical terminology
