Executes assignments concerned with specialized or unique nuclear safety requirements. Has technical responsibility for independently interpreting, organizing, and coordinating these assignments. This involves exploration of nuclear safety issues, definition of scope and may involve development of novel concepts, approaches and solutions.

Principal Responsibilities:

1. Applies expertise in nuclear safety to broadly stated technical problems.
2. Identifies and defines problems; plans and conducts research aimed at their solution. Conducts or leads special studies on new technologies, methods, and materials.
3. Carries out special or unique studies requiring unconventional or novel approaches or research techniques.
4. Uses all available guides and precedents and expands and develops where these contain critical gaps, are only partially related to the problem, or are largely lacking because of the novel character of the project.
5. Leads, as requested, in the formulation of advanced engineering/scientific concepts during proposal development and preliminary design phases and presents these to client management.
6. Conducts research, presents papers, and keeps abreast of technological developments in nuclear safety, keeping engineering management informed of important new advances.
7. Serves as consultant to project and specialty engineering/scientific groups, providing advice and counsel on assignments having special and unique features.
8. Supports preparation of and reviews nuclear discipline estimates, discipline work plans, budgets and schedules.
9. Assists in the development and coordination of special educational and training programs for Bechtel personnel and/or clients.
10. Participates in and fosters a work environment based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.

Basic Qualifications:

- BS degree in engineering or science from an accredited university or college and 13 years of progressive related work experience

Minimum Qualifications:

- Developmental experience such as practical work experience in design engineering or other relevant types of engineering such as systems startup, field engineering, or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities, process plants or other engineering/construction firms.
- Technical knowledge of nuclear engineering systems, engineering calculations and applications of engineering methods.
- Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledgeable of and have experience in Issues Management in a nuclear safety culture.
- Demonstrate a personal strong commitment to quality, integration and safety.
- Ability to work effectively with a variety of project personnel in developing working solutions to complex problems.
- Good knowledge of major industry or regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to the nuclear engineering discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience as a nuclear engineer at a major commercial, industrial, or nuclear facility.
- Experience working on government projects.
- Experience working on the design of nuclear or chemical process facilities.
- Experience performing hazards analyses and authoring nuclear safety documentation.
- Ability to plan and schedule assigned work and complete tasks on time.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Flexibility to respond to urgent project requests and/or changing priorities.
- Ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to work with people of varied backgrounds and objectives.
