The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD ("The HARRIS CENTER") is looking for a Senior Nurse Manager to join our team. Under the direction and supervision of the Division Nurse Director and CNO, the Senior Nurse Manager is responsible for managing, directing, and coordinating operations and patient care for an assigned clinic department or unit including management of licensed and non-licensed staff. The Senior Nurse Manager will demonstrate effective utilization and deployment of licensed and unlicensed staff, encourage professional growth among the unit and ensure delivery of quality of care in a trauma informed environment. The Senior Nurse Manager will ensure that practices are implemented as required by the Texas Nurse Practice Act within the Standards of Nursing Practice as well as polices within The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD. When needed, the Senior Nurse Manager provides consultation services for healthcare issues/concerns in those programs that do not employ nursing staff.

Your role in action:
  • Utilize a five step process to deliver patient services. The process includes: assessment, analysis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrate decision making that is clinically sound, systematic, timely, well researched and reflect awareness of impact and is governed by State and Agency practices.
  • Performs technical skills within the scope of practice for a registered nurse in accordance with policies and procedures at The Harris Center.
  • Oversee the performance of diagnostic tests, administer medication, and provide treatment that is therapeutic and consistent with practices that follow key principles of a trauma informed approach (i.e. safety, trustworthiness, transparency, peer support, empowerment, voice and choice, culture, history, gender).
  • Support an environment that is environmentally and technically safe while providing care.
  • Provide oversight and delegation of nursing tasks to licensed vocational nursing or unlicensed personnel.
  • Document patient assessment findings, physical/psychosocial responses to nursing
  • intervention and progress towards problem resolution.
  • Initiates emergency resuscitative measures according to adult resuscitation and advanced life support protocol
  • Collaborate with the team to provide behavioral emergency assistance, such as patient restraint using approved Agency curriculum, as well as recognize and report homicidal or suicidal behaviors.
  • Ensure the delivery of care with appropriate age and cultural competence to specific patient populations according to individualized needs.
  • Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel during each shift and maintains
  • confidentiality in matters related to patient, family, and client facility staff.
  • Provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the patient's and family's diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity, and rights.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the Department of Aging and Disability Services and Texas Administrative Code regulations for Home and Community Services (HCS), Intermediate Care Facilities Intellectual/ Developmental Disabilities (ICF-IDD) and Texas Home Living Waiver (TXHmL) programs.

What qualifications you will need:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from a four year college.
  • MSN degree preferred.
  • ANCC certification preferred.


Experience :

  • 3+ years of nursing experience (not including clinical hours required for education) and a minimum of at least two years of mental health/behavioral health/intellectual disability nursing experience.
  • Additionally, two years of documented experience in a management/leadership role in nursing services.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Texas Board of Nurse Examiners Nurse Practice Act and Standards of Nursing Practices
  • Basic principles of psychiatric/mental health nursing and/or developmental disabilities nursing.
  • Leadership and management principles
  • Crisis intervention techniques, procedures, practices.
  • Budget preparation and oversight.
  • Applicable pharmacy rules and regulations including psychopharmacology
  • Standard Precautions and infection control procedures for dealing with sharp instruments, needles, blood and body fluids
  • Effective communication practices.
  • Staffing principles and techniques that focus on safety.
  • Determining patient acuity and staffing to assure acuity needs are met in terms of allocation of staff.
  • Principles of effective problem resolution
