The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Bureau of Facilities and Lands, is recruiting to fill multiple Facilities and Land Engineers (Natural Resources Engineer) at the Senior or Advanced level depending upon qualifications. These positions could be stationed out of the DNR offices in Fitchburg, Dodgeville, Black River Falls, La Crosse, Eau Claire, Spooner, Superior, Ashland or Park Falls depending upon space availability. Position Summary

These positions are project engineers in the Engineering and Construction Management Section in the Bureau of Facilities and Lands. Duties will include budgeting, planning, design, design oversight, and project and construction management of DNR facilities.

These positions will ensure that the construction of DNR facilities are completed in accordance with all applicable laws, codes, statutes, administrative requirements, approved programs, schedules and budgets. Typical projects include trails, buildings, wastewater systems, water supply systems, privies, piers, boat launches, bridges, exterior/interior facility repairs, pavements and parking lots, towers, campgrounds, and projects related to natural resource programs.

Senior-level and Advanced-level Facilities and Lands Engineers manage the coordination, design and construction of projects, with the assistance of Entry-level Facilities and Lands Engineers.

Salary Information

Starting pay for Senior level is $38.00 - $43.50 per hour ($79,040- $90,480 annually) in pay schedule and range 14-13.

Starting pay for Advanced level is $44.00 - $48.59 per hour ($91,520- $101,067.20 annually) in pay schedule and range 14-13.

Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

These positions include an excellent benefits package, including health care, vacation, sick leave, and retirement benefits. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Plus, an additional $2,080/year for a Professional Engineer license.

Qualifications

Please make sure to describe the following qualifications within your resume and/or letter of qualifications.

To be minimally qualified applicants must meet (and provide appropriate documentation of at least one of the below requirements:
  • Have graduated from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in a related engineering field such as electrical, mechanical, civil or environmental engineering; OR
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer as determined by the Department of Safety and Professional Services per s. 443.04, Wis. Stats.; OR
  • A specific record, issued by the professional engineering section of the Department of Safety and Professional Services, showing 4 years or more of experience in engineering work of a character satisfactory to the professional engineering section and satisfactory completion of the fundamentals of engineering exam; OR
  • Have equivalent professional training and practical experience so as to be deemed a professional engineer as defined in Department of Safety and Professional Services per s. 443.01, Wis. Stats. and also deemed to be qualified to engage in professional engineering practice as determined by the Department of Safety and Professional Services per s. 443.03, or 443.04, or 443.05, Wis. Stats.
Applicants who wish to be considered for the Senior or Advanced level must have the minimum qualifications listed above plus experience working on professional engineering and construction projects for 3 plus years in conjunction with the following experience:
  • Building systems (e.g., roofing, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, envelope, etc.)
  • Utility Systems (e.g., water systems, sewer systems, pump systems, etc.)
  • Culverts / drainage systems
  • Roadways, trails, or parking lots
Hydrology/hydraulics projects (e.g., design and construction of dams, impoundments, and/or water resource facilities)

In addition, the best-qualified applicants for the Advanced level will also have the following:
  • Experience working on engineering and construction projects as the technical expert for DNR related projects.
  • Possession of Professional Engineer license
