Team Intro
The TikTok USDS Legal & Compliance team manages and oversees legal, privacy, and regulatory matters pertaining to TikTok USDS's operations. We collaborate cross-functionally and globally to address some of the most complex and intriguing issues in privacy and data security. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Privacy Counsel with a passion for mentoring and training to join our legal team. The Senior Privacy Counsel will play a key role in ensuring compliance with privacy laws and regulations, leading our cybersecurity incident management program, advising on privacy matters, and implementing best practices to protect user data within our platform.

In order to enhance collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, among other things, at this time, our organization follows a hybrid work schedule that requires employees to work in the office 3 days a week, or as directed by their manager/department. We regularly review our hybrid work model, and the specific requirements may change at any time.

Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Global Privacy to spearhead USDS's compliance with global privacy laws, including GDPR and CCPA.
- Develop, implement, and refine external and internal privacy policies, processes, standards, and guidelines, including data lifecycle management.
- Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments for new products and initiatives, aiming to identify and mitigate privacy risks.
- Provide expert legal advice on data protection to internal stakeholders, ensuring product teams, engineering, and management are well-informed.
- Support the development and implementation of privacy training programs to promote a culture of compliance across TikTok.
- Review and negotiate privacy provisions in contracts and agreements, safeguarding user data.
- Act as the primary interface with regulatory authorities and industry groups on privacy matters.
- Monitor and engage in legislative and regulatory developments, advocating for public policy that reflects our privacy principles.
- Support the response to data security incidents and breaches, assisting with investigation, notification, and remediation efforts.
- Work closely with legal, security, compliance, and public policy teams to navigate privacy challenges and seize opportunities.
- Mentor and coach team members, particularly focusing on developing their expertise in privacy law and practices.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
- J.D. degree from ABA accredited law school (or foreign equivalent) with membership in good standing in a US state bar
- 5+ years of privacy legal experience
- Comprehensive understanding of global privacy laws, including GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant frameworks.

- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail and adeptness in making well-informed decisions.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing and working collaboratively with various teams.
- Proven track record of managing multiple projects and prioritizing effectively in a fast-paced environment.
