Position Summary

Acting under the direction of the Privacy Officer, the Sr. Privacy Specialist is responsible for the investigation, breach notification and mitigation of all HIPAA incidents involving ECU Health.

In addition to investigation, the Sr. Privacy Specialist:
  • Shall evaluate practices versus current policy and law and recommend solutions to address and reduce risk to the organization
  • Must manage multiple assigned investigations in a timely, efficient and well-organized manner and ensure that any written material and correspondence are accurate and maintained per HIPAA rules and regulations
  • Will represent the Privacy Program as requested during meetings, committees, training and presentations, based on organizational needs

Minimum Requirements
  • 2 year college degree and a certification (RHIA, CHPS, or CPHRM) or a 4-year degree- or higher
  • Five (5) years-experience conducting HIPAA and privacy investigations

Preferred
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing and critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and resourcefulness
  • Must work independently with minimal oversight and with multi-functional teams across ECU Health
  • Expert level of Microsoft Office applications, including SharePoint, Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to travel as necessary

  • Hybrid (#LI-Hybrid)
  • Monday - Friday (8 am - 5 pm)
  • Will work 90% remotely and 10% on-site or when needed
