The Department of Surgery is looking for a candidate who can work very independently with little guidance from Program Director and/or Principal Investigators, coordinates all activities of research area including but not limited to: data collection, implementing and maintaining quality assurance procedures, performing statistical analyses, designing research protocols with Principal Investigators and more. This work is directly related to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and research including lung cancer work and social determinants of health research.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Directly supervises the activities of Research Assistants, including hiring, performance evaluation and discipline of staff.

2. In collaboration with Project Director and PIs, develops, implements and/or maintains an orientation and training program for all staff.

3. May coordinate all (or portion) of research study activities. Function as a resource for all study issues. Identifies problems and develops solutions.

4. Designs, implements, and evaluates recruitment strategies for study participants.

5. Interact with patients/subjects with regard to study, including patient education, procedural instruction, follow-up. May serve as a liaison between patient and physician.

6. Responsible for overseeing the data collection process. Ensures integrity of patient data.

7. Implements and maintains quality assurance procedures and systems.

8. Plans, designs and performs statistical analyses.

9. In collaboration with PI, develops and implements new research protocols including design, data collection systems, and institutional review board approval. Responsible for writing new grants.

10. In collaboration with PI, prepares and may present certain portions of presentations, in addition to preparing articles for publication.

11. May be responsible to monitor grant budget, in collaboration with PI and Project Director.

12. All other duties as assigned.

DIVERISTY, EQUITY & INCLUSION & LUNG CANCER RESEARCH WORK

• Creation and management of resident and faculty database

• Assistance with manuscript writing and data curation

• Performs scheduled statistical analysis of data

• Collaboration with CSPH fellows, affiliated faculty, core faculty and other personnel involved in public health research

• Performs interviews and other related protocol-based interactions, performs data input

• Performs qualitative analysis of semi-structured focus group

• Maintains LabArchives account for team usage

• Maintains MGB Dropbox account for team usage

• Utilizes electronic systems such as excel and online survey tools (e.g. survey monkey, RedCap) to support obtaining, tracking, and analyzing data for research related protocol

• Communicates via email or other mailings with participants to assist with recruitment and obtaining data

• Maintains confidentiality of protocol participants, including but not limited to informed consent

• Keeps up to date with lung cancer screening guideline

• Assists with collection and tracking of underrepresented minorities (URM) patient, faculty and trainees' data at a hospital, network, community level and beyond.

SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH (SDOH) WORK:

In addition to the above:

• General familiarity with current efforts and literature related to social determinants of health

• Engagement in available training and education around the topic of SDOH and community-based research

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is a hybrid position. The person in this role is required to come on-site a minimum of TWO days (one of those days must be a Tuesday). Additionally, the selected candidate will also have to be credentialed at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Boston to support the SDOH work.

Qualifications

  • BS OR BA
  • 3-5 years of directly related, progressively more responsible, experience.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for directly supervising Research Assistants in area. Trains and orients staff, in addition to hiring, firing, evaluating and disciplining. Coordinates staffing and schedule.
