The role will also encompass people leadership, phenotyping team supervisor, and wheat seed production specialist. Responsibilities - What You'll Do as a Senior Research Associate Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and People Development:
- Lead a team of Phenotyping Specialist, fostering their professional growth.
- Provide guidance for employee development and career progression.
- Collaborate with the operations team to maintain role clarity within the research team.
- Next-Generation Phenotyping and Data Validation Leadership:
- Explore opportunities for advanced phenotyping techniques and methodologies.
- Validate and ensure accuracy of collected data.
- Maintain effective communication with the research center staff in Wamego, KS, and other researchers to ensure accurate data collection, adherence to timelines, and data quality for decision-making.
- Multi Crop Seed Production:
- Plan and execute multi crop seed production land use.
- Ensure the consistent quality of plots year after year through an intensive crop rotation and spray plan.
- Collaborate, design, and execute hybrid wheat seed production experiments.
- Produce high quality wheat, soybean, and sorghum breeding seed.
- High quality seed amounts timely delivered.
- Supervision and Organization:
- Organize and supervise part-time and temporary employees, ensuring safe and efficient work practices.
- Communicate procedures and expectations to data collection personnel.
- Promote a safe and respectful working environment.
- Field Monitoring and Reporting:
- Monitor on- and off-site research trials and research seed production locations throughout the growing season.
- Communicate field conditions to Research Agronomy Specialist to ensure weed-free fields and timely data collection and harvest activities, resulting in high-quality data.
- Computer skills and the use of Corteva proprietary software for completing these tasks will be a significant component; the handling of large volumes of data will be required.
Requirements and Competencies - What You'll Bring:
- Master's degree in agronomy is preferred
- Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, electronic database entries, image processing)
- Ability to independently deliver solutions by asking the right questions, identifying necessary data sources/features, and producing actionable results.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented and attention to detail; passion for solving problems using new techniques and 'can-do' attitude.
- Proficient writing, speaking, organizational and computer skills are needed.
