Responsibilities

Independently sets up and performs experiments and procedures in support of lab goals and grant commitments (e.g. assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, etc.). Contributes to the planning, design and modification of studies and experiments in the research lab setting. Monitors results, reports unusual outcomes and suggests modifications. Collects, enters, summarizes, and analyzes data. May oversee and assist with the training of residents, fellows and temporary lab personnel in lab techniques. Works with minimal supervision and performs assignments independently as discussed and approved by Principal Investigator.

The successful applicant will join a team with the primary objective of building organoids for drug testing and in vivo therapeutics, supported by a UMN-Mayo Partnership award. The position will work on various 3D organoid cultures derived from patient tissues and will be involved in the acquisition, processing, maintenance, and down-stream applications of organoids. Applications will include biobanking, disease modeling, basic science studies, microfluidics, co-culture, and drug screening.

Experience working with 3D culture systems (such as organoids) is required. The candidate will be expected to perform laboratory procedures in a cell culture atmosphere for creation, culturing, maintenance and characterization of 3D organoids. They will work with the investigators to develop new protocols, test and evaluate a variety of approaches, and ensure successful creation of the organoid platforms. The candidate will perform experiments and data analysis, document experimental observations and calculations, and summarize the findings. Troubleshooting of standard experiments is expected. The candidate will present data at regular meetings, provide conclusions and future plans as directed by the investigative team.

The candidate should have demonstrated abilities to work collaboratively in a team with excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills. The candidate is expected to be flexible and proficient with time management, with a demonstrated ability to share and delegate tasks as necessary towards overall programmatic goals. Flexibility may also involve occasional evening and weekend availability to process tissues and samples based on timing of patient samples.

Qualifications:

Requires bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or other relevant science with 4 years of research laboratory experience. Master's degree in biology, chemistry, or other relevant science preferred.
