Responsibilities

  • Provides a uniform presence in the prevention of criminal, unsafe, or potentially dangerous activity at Florida State University's Strozier Library.
  • Using various patrol methods, observes and analyzes any suspicious persons and incidents. Assist staff, Police and emergency personnel during emergencies or disruptive situations. Challenges and reports unauthorized visitors to FSUPD. Maintains visual contact of trespassers and coordinates police response to intercept.
  • Responds to emergencies, and/or unusual, suspicious, or extraordinary conditions. Notifies law enforcement of any structural fires, vehicular fires, automobile accidents and other situations. Patrols and monitor grounds, buildings and unsupervised places of the grounds of FSU, to ensure the safety and well-being of the campus and visitors.
  • Provide periodic inspection of equipment, portable radios, and routing of defective IRS repair replacement.
  • Perform duties regarding crowd, control in traffic direction in highly congested traffic situation such special events.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by the chief, or their designee, not otherwise prohibited by law or regulations.
  • As members of the library security team, we strive to provide the highest level of customer service to our campus community, and to ensure that all who enter our facilities are following the proper procedures for access. Our aim is to enhance our patrons' experience and encourage them to seek assistance when needed. We also aim to gain the trust of our community by being visible and approachable while we also look for and report suspicious activities.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to one year.)
  • Must meet the requirements of Chapter 493, Florida Statutes.
  • A valid Florida or Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain prior to hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with crises and manage sensitive information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of this position including moving up to 30lbs.
  • Experience working with applicable computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite, and basic computer functions.
  • Ability to differentiate emergency from non-emergency situations.
