Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 3 years of experience with performance, large-scale systems data analysis, visualization tools, or debugging.
  • Experience with computer architecture, performance analysis, and performance modeling.


Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD with an emphasis on performance evaluation of ML Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience in performance analysis and debugging improving performance of distributed systems.
  • Experience with hardware (e.g., how chips are built, RTL/VHDL/Verilog, interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet).
  • Experience with simulators, especially hardware simulators.
  • Experience with ML Accelerators.
  • Experience with Compiler flows software involved in translating a high-level language (e.g., TensorFlow) to hardware instructions.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $161,000-$239,000 bonus equity benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis of Machine Learning (ML) workloads such as Gemini on future TPU systems using simulation (e.g., TF-Sim), evaluate performance/cost trade-offs of hardware features and software optimization techniques and drive the next generation TPU chip and system architecture.
  • Work together with teams across the full ML hardware/software stack, ML models, compilers, ML systems, TPU accelerators, to develop a thorough understanding of the performance/cost trade-offs within a vast ML system design space.
  • Help develop the TF-Sim TPU/GPU performance methodology, enabling unified performance/Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) projection of future ML systems across Google (e.g., C and Python development).
