Arlington, Virginia
Employer: Jacobs

Salary: Competitive
Job type: Full-Time
Our People & Places Solutions business reinforces our drive to improve the lives of people everywhere and epitomizes the "why" of what we do - the tremendous positive impact and value our solutions bring to our communities and our global society. We deliver fully integrated, interdisciplinary solutions to create resilient infrastructure to serve current and future generations.
At Jacobs, we're helping our clients innovate and grow by designing, engineering, and executing construction of state-of-the-art facilities that are changing the world.
We are seeking a Structural Engineer (Buildings) to join our Arlington, VA office as part of Jacobs' Federal & Environmental Solutions business unit. Collaborating with our diverse team of architects and engineers, you'll design structural systems for a variety of building types including airports, government facilities, mission critical facilities, laboratories, and manufacturing facilities. Design criteria may include progressive collapse, blast, seismic retrofit, and other unique loading requirements (e.g., simulator, vehicle, thermal gradient).
The successful candidate will be a self-motivated professional with at least 12 years of progressive structural engineering experience. Key responsibilities of the role are:
• Provide complete design solutions from concept to final design and construction.
• Lead and mentor other structural engineers through project execution.
• Design and analyze structures to meet project-specific and code requirements utilizing finite element analysis and hand calculations.
• Develop clear and comprehensive calculations, basis of design documents, drawings, and specifications.
• Perform construction administration activities including review of submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings; construction walkthroughs; and field fixes.
• Coordinate and communicate design solutions with clients and other engineering disciplines - including presentations, reports, studies, design review meetings, and training.
• Assist with project planning, cost estimating, proposals, and project management.
Jacobs offers competitive pay and benefits commensurate with experience and qualifications; flexible schedules and remote work opportunities; and a team dynamic that encourages knowledge sharing and growth. Bring your technical expertise, creativity, and curiosity and we'll help you evolve and succeed in your career.
Here is what you'll need:
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasis
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• 12+ years of relevant buildings-related structural design experience
• Proficiency with structural design and analysis software (e.g., ETABS, RISA, RAM)
• Thorough knowledge of building codes and standards (e.g., IBC, ASCE)
• Desire to take independent initiative and ownership of work, and an eagerness to learn
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• United States citizenship (due to Federal client requirements)
