Position: Senior Surgical Pathologists' Assistant

Department: Surgical Grossing Room, Pathology

Overview:

Are you an experienced Pathologists' Assistant ready to lead a dedicated team? Join us at Brigham and Women's Hospital, where you'll oversee daily operations, ensure quality assurance, and contribute to resident training. This role offers a unique blend of leadership, technical expertise, and hands-on pathology work.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership:

  • Supervise Laboratory Assistants and Pathology Specialists I, ensuring efficient workflow and communication.
  • Develop coverage schedules, coordinate equipment and supply needs, and address safety concerns.
  • Train and mentor pathology residents, medical students, and new staff.


Quality Assurance:

  • Oversee specimen quality assurance, resolving discrepancies and ensuring protocol adherence.
  • Implement and review quality assurance programs and prepare for regulatory inspections.


General Pathologists' Assistant Duties:

  • Perform gross description and dissection of surgical pathology specimens.
  • Conduct post-mortem examinations and assist in frozen section labs.
  • Support departmental clinical studies, teaching, and research activities.


Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree from a NAACLS accredited and AAPA approved Pathologists' Assistant Training Program.
  • ASCP certification required.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a Pathologists' Assistant in an academic medical setting.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and technical dissection skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of anatomy, surgical pathology, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to perform frozen sections and troubleshoot complex issues independently.
