The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) at Kirtland Air Force Base is searching for a Senior Systems Engineer, SZIS (NH-0801-03, GS 12/13 Equivalent).
Description:
Are you an experienced systems engineer ready to take your career to the next level? The U.S. Space Force at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, NM, is seeking a talented aerospace and systems engineering expertise to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to apply your multidisciplinary knowledge-whether in electronics, mechanical, aerospace, or other engineering fields-to the acquisition, development, and sustainment of advanced weapon systems and support structures. You'll work closely with military personnel, government civilians, and contractors, acting as the technical specialist in developing system performance requirements, integration strategies, and resource estimates for cutting-edge projects that are critical to national security.
In this role, you'll play a key part in our mission to integrate scientific payloads from universities and research centers onto spacecraft, support the integration of space vehicles onto launch vehicles, and ensure the success of rocket launches and one year of on-orbit operations. Your work will directly contribute to advancing the technical capabilities of the U.S. warfighter by enabling groundbreaking research and development experiments in space. With travel opportunities outside the local area 7-10 days per quarter, you'll be at the forefront of space operations, driving innovation and shaping the future of defense technology. The ideal candidate will possess a professional engineering degree at the bachelor's level or higher from an ABET accredited institution, training in acquisitions and program management, and several years of experience in systems engineering and/or aero-space engineering.

- U.S. Citizenship Required
- This position is on-site and eligible for telework, 2-4 days per pay period.
- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret w/SCI clearance.
- A professional engineering degree at the bachelor's level from an ABET accredited institution is required.
- May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
- May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
- This position has been designated as an acquisition position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP).
- Work requires the appropriate APDP certification(s); i.e., Level 2 or 3 in an area such as Test and Evaluation; Systems Planning, Research, Development, and Engineering-Systems Engineering (SPRDE-SE).
- The employee must meet, or be capable of meeting Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) certification requirements applicable to the career category designated on the position description within 24 months of assignment.
- This position also requires the employee to engage in acquisition continuous learning activities achieving 80 Continuous Learning points every 24 months.
- This position has been designated for drug testing. Incumbent is subject to random urinalysis testing as a condition of employment.
- Employee must within 30-days of assuming this position and by 31 October annually thereafter, file an OGE-450, "Confidential Financial Disclosure Report." Employee is required to attend annual ethics and procurement integrity training.
- PCS and relocation funding are available.
