Working very independently, performs non-routine, highly specialized experimental procedures. Participates in the design and modification of research protocols. Composes and may present sections of research reports and manuscripts. Performs advanced lab techniques, data analysis using advanced statistical techniques. Coordinates lab activities and undertakes quality assurance programs. Supervises lab staff.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Independently performs different surgical techniques such as Controlled Cortical Impact (CCI) under CCM guidelines.
  • Independently performs in-vitro experiments such as Transwell co-culture and migration assays.
  • Independently performs cytokines production assays including ELISA. Validating RNA seq pathways using qPCR.
  • Independently performs certain in-vivo experiments such as adoptive transfer of lymphocytes and other specific cell types between donor and recipient groups of mice.
  • Independently performs different behavioral experiments such as Morris Water Maze, Rotarod, and Open Field to test and evaluate behavioral outcomes after specific treatments and conditions.
  • Independently record data, summarizes, and analyzes results using basic statistics.
  • Independently prepares laboratory reagents, chemicals, instruments, and equipment.
  • Independently maintains supplies inventory in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Discusses progress of work regularly with supervisor.
  • Develops research methodologies within the parameters of experimental protocols and research objectives. Participates in the design and modification of research protocols.
  • Present sections of research reports and manuscripts.
  • Responsible for the oversight and coordination of all lab activities, including quality assurance.
  • Responsible for the oversight and coordination of the scheduling of all procedures.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting problems and instructing others in highly specialized techniques.
  • If entry level research staff is present, responsible for supervising staff in the lab, including hiring, firing, evaluation, and discipline.
  • In collaboration with PI, participates in budget and grant development and preparation.
  • All other duties, as assigned.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in biological science.
  • 3-5 years of directly related progressively more responsible experience.


SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Good organizational skills, detail oriented.
  • Sound degree of computer literacy.
  • Ability to methodically record data and to analyze data using basic statistics.
  • Ability to perform a variety of routine tests and prioritize work.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
