UVA Facilities Management (FM) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Trades Utility Technician who supports FM's goal of providing consistent, cost effective, and reliable maintenance and service to the University facilities in Housing . The Housing Z one provides facilities services to Housing and Residential Life (HRL) properties consisting of 8,000 beds distributed through 187 buildings, encompassing over 3 million square feet of occupied residential space. Our portfolio includes single-family homes, traditional residence halls, and apartments.

Senior Trades Utility Technicians provide support to zone mechanics and other employees in support of zone maintenance. The Senior Trades Utility Technician performs skilled repair and maintenance tasks in one or more specialized trades/utilities areas and performs semi-skilled, general repair and maintenance tasks in other trades/utilities areas. This work may be performed more independently based on the individual's experience and maintenance/repair service needs. The incumbent will have working knowledge in the use of a variety of diagnostic tools, instruments, equipment, and hand and power tools.

F acilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

Responsibilities include:
  • Assist skilled journey level electricians or HVAC mechanics in performing routine system maintenance, preventative maintenance, equipment repairs, assessing problems, undertaking corrective actions, and site cleanup.
  • Develop an increasing knowledge of types of tools, materials and equipment used in University facilities.
  • Maintain accurate records on time tickets, job requests, and work orders.
  • Determine material and equipment for specific jobs, as well as initiate procurement.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations. Use personal safety equipment as instructed, and act in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Meet with and respond to customer requests on work status in coordination with the supervisor.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $19.50 - $23.50/hour ($40,560.00 - $48,880.00 annually).

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience: A minimum of four [4] years of work experience in either Plumbing, HVAC or Electrical trade s .
  • Licensure: Valid Driver's License.
Physical Demands :

The employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands-on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks). The employee must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and for some areas of employment, color vision and sense of smell.
