Under the direction of a Supervising Transportation Engineer, Caltrans, the incumbent directs the work of and supervises the personnel of a Construction Field Office. The Construction Engineer is directly responsible for administration of construction contracts, manages resources, and reviews the work of State and contractor forces. The Construction Engineer is also responsible for advising the Resident Engineer on construction safety and contract administration issues. Additionally, may be assigned as the Resident Engineer on large and/or complex projects. The incumbent will be assigned work based on Departmental/Divisional needs and could be assigned to any office within District 12, Orange County.

Position located in Santa Ana, CA

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

Work conditions include office and project job site settings. Office activities include working and communicating with Caltrans and external personnel, meetings, writing reports, performing analysis, managing resources. Field activities include evaluating project issues, exposure to moving traffic, loud noises, extreme heat and cold temperatures, dust, uneven terrain, and heavy construction equipment that is moving. May require fieldwork at night. Night work requires the ability to work in artificial lighting. The ability to be aware of and maintain alertness to the environment is critical. The incumbent is required to wear and utilize protective clothing (i.e., hard hat, safety boots/shoes, vests, coveralls, eye protection, hearing protection, respirator equipment).

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Special Requirements
Occasional travel may be required. Possession of a valid driver's license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.

Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required and must be submitted along with your state application. The SOQ must not exceed one page in length and be in no less than 12-point Century Gothic font. Each prompt must be addressed separately and in order.
