Description
SAIC is seeking a Senior Windows Administrator to join our program as a general technologist to support our NOAA GFDL
program in Princeton, NJ serving the NOAA GFDL lab in a highly scientific user and mission driven facility. This individual
would support both projects (60%) and user (40%) actives in a high interrupt tiered support environment requiring rapid
response to the most complex customer systems inquiries. The environment consists of a Core Windows Infrastructure
running on mostly Dell Hardware, with 200+ Linux workstations, 50+ Windows Workstations, and 20+ Mac Workstations.
On a daily basis this individual may divide their time between (1) managing Junior System Admins to support lower level
issues; (2) identifying, evaluating and prioritizing customer problems to ensure that inquiries are resolved appropriately;
(3) conducting project work on several complex system projects simultaneously; and (4) managing and actively reporting
on project status; (5) setting technical infrastructure direction and offering suggestions to improve and further automate
the environment;
The ideal candidate must be an independent self-starter, be system agnostic, and adept at supporting Linux, Windows
and Mac in a heterogeneous environment, where the Core Infrastructure is Windows, and have excellent customer facing
communication and consultation skills (with managers and/or scientists).
The duties will include, but not limited to:
- Providing Mid-Tier to Top-Tier System Administration for client and server systems in heterogeneous environment, where
the Core Infrastructure is Windows based;
- System Administration - Maintain IT Security posture according to organization requirements, manage rigorous patching
schedule for all system software and firmware, manage existing patching deployment tools, maintain and enhance current
tools;
- Maintain, monitor, support, and upgrade as needed the infrastructure environment, including the Windows Core
Infrastructure, and lead enterprise base work initiatives and projects;
- Support multiple systems or applications of medium to high complexity with multiple concurrent users, ensuring control,
integrity and accessibility;
- Work with project managers to coordinate and plan project tasks and resources;
- Integration solutions with other applications and platforms based on requirements;
- Maintain a monthly patch schedule for all workstations, servers, cluster, hypervisors, etc.
- Coordinate changes across multiple systems;
- Perform routine maintenance tasks for infrastructure systems as follows, but not limited to:
o Highly available virtualization and database clusters;
o Web server clusters;
o File Share services (NFS/CIFS);
o Multi-Tiered Public Key Infrastructure;
o Virtual Desktop Infrastructure;
- Working with engineers on the requirements and provides recommendations for improvements;
- Recommend changes/enhancements for improved systems availability, reliability and performance;
- Coordinates problem resolution among a variety of functional areas and provides subject matter expertise support for
diagnosing and resolving problems;
- Recommend and implement software or hardware changes to rectify problems or address improvement opportunities;
- Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and standards;
- Provide technical guidance, coaching/mentoring to team members;
- Evaluate future technologies and makes recommendations for software and hardware upgrades;
- Generate and validate IT system baselines, including validation of documentation;
- Ensure IT system security basslines are met and security improvements are implemented across the server and client
environment;
- Generate processes to ensure appropriate user privileges and access are granted, ensuring data integrity and security is
met;
- Work with vendors and architects to understand their technology roadmaps;
- Develop plans to adopt new technology;
- Writing/updating/enhancing system documentation concerning problem resolutions and HPC assets;
- Writing technical justifications for the procurement of hardware & software;
- Reviewing system inventory/warranty, plan upgrades for client and server systems;

Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree and 5+ years of experience is preferred, or 8 + years of experience in lieu of degree
- Experience with medium to large server/data center environment;
- Experience working with Hypervisors, chassis, blade servers, and Production Cluster;
- Automation and Load Balancing Experience;
- Experience with CAC authentication solutions such as Centrify in an Active Directory Environment;
- Experience managing and maintaining virtualization cluster preferably Ovirt and Hyper-V;
- Experience managing and maintaining Active Directory;
- Experience managing and maintaining database clusters, preferably Microsoft SQL cluster and Percona XtraDB/MySQL
cluster; - Experience with system deployment, SW deployment and configuration management solutions: Ansible (most desired),
Powershell (most desired), Satellite/Foreman/Spacewalk, Puppet, Symantec ITMS, Microsoft SCVMM; - Experience developing/diagnosing automation scripts (Ansible, Powershell);
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Server/Client, and Redhat/CentOS Operating systems, and have experience developing
security baselines; - Knowledge of building systems for clients and servers; and knowledge of different classes of system architecture;
- Experience managing VDI infrastructure; preferably Microsoft VDI solution;
- Understanding of licensing structures for Microsoft and RedHat products;
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines;
- Experience with configuration and support of access methods e.g. VPN, SSH tunneling;
- Experience with Backup solutions such as Bacula and or Veritas NetBackup;
- Keeping up-to-date with current hardware/software events/releases
- Experience managing and maintaining software scalable network file systems, and centralized storage appliances;
- Experience managing, and support Active Directory with smart card authentication infrastructure;
- Must have a strong automation experience, software deployment, and configuration management solutions for multiple
environments; - US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- Bachelors Degree in a STEM related field and 5+ years of experience
