SET-UP TECHNICIAN
DEPARTMENT: Production
SCOPE: As a Set-Up Technician in our injection molding facility, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring seamless production processes. Your hands-on work will involve setting up molds on multiple molding machines, including tasks such as changing molds using hoists, generating first articles, purging, and switching materials. You'll manage multiple programs in the controller and collaborate closely with various teams. Your ability to identify and troubleshoot molding problems will be essential, and you'll work alongside the Foreman to distinguish between process-related issues and mold-related issues.
REPORTS TO: Shift Foreman
AUTHORITY: Assumes responsibilities of Shift Foreman during leave.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Machine Set-Up and Maintenance:
  • Set up and maintain production of injection molding machines, tooling, and processes.
  • Utilize hoists to change molds efficiently.
  • Generate the first articles and perform material switches.
  • Manage multiple programs in the controller.
  • Verify tooling, instructions, and materials before use on assigned processes.
  • Perform process verification prior to job commencement.
  • Operate forklifts and cranes to safely transport molds.
  • Responsible for mold changes and machine adjustments.
  • Ability to set up and tear down molds from machines.
  • Conduct minor repairs and change inserts.
  • Load processes into the machine, start-up, and shut down.
Technical Understanding:
  • Troubleshoot basic machine issues during production runs.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of molding machine operations.
  • Identify the function of each component in the molding process (e.g., screw and barrel, check-ring, heating zones, thermolators).
  • Clearly describe technical issues concisely and accurately.
  • Familiarity with pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
Quality and Safety:
  • Ensure that production activities adhere to approved procedures.
  • Verify production disposition and approval before further processing.
  • Maintain a safe and productive work environment.
  • Troubleshoot basic machine issues during production runs.
  • Report any machinery or equipment not working properly.
Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Assume responsibilities of the Shift Supervisor during their absence.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, tool room personnel, quality control, and maintenance teams.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) related to delivery, quality, and productivity.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • MUST HAVE SET UP experience with a CNC
  • Associates degree or technical certification in manufacturing or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years previous experience in injection molding or related manufacturing processes.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Actively engages in a team-based environment.
  • Must be able to learn and execute all work instructions, standard operating procedures, and quality practices/standards.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Safety conscious and quality focused.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct, coach, and train associates as well as plan, monitor and schedule work.
  • Bilingual is preferred.

SALARY RANGE: $19 - $26 Hourly
