The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) currently has an opening for a Social Worker - Clinical project position. This position works as part of the groundbreaking Veterans Outreach and Recovery Program (VORP), which serves the state's veteran population by providing access to a wide variety of programs and services.

This project position is scheduled to end June 30, 2025. Project positions are eligible for benefits including health insurance, but the incumbent does not attain permanent civil service status.

VORP Clinical Social Workers are responsible for covering one of the three clinical regions across the state. These regions are Northeast, Northwest, and Southern Wisconsin. The current regional vacanc y is listed below.

Position Summary

This position performs professional clinical social work services for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental and emotional disorders in veterans. The incumbent serves as a licensed mental health professional assisting the Veterans Outreach and Recovery Program in the delivery of mental health and/or substance abuse services throughout Wisconsin.

This position also provides ongoing mentoring, technical assistance, support, and clinical oversight to VORP participants and department case management staff. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that mental health services and case management support are provided in accordance with Federal, State and Department policies and regulations.

Other responsibilities include developing and implementing a comprehensive training program for program support staff as well as serving as a liaison between counties, other behavioral health providers, state departments, and VA medical centers.

Salary Information

The starting salary is between $31.80 - $39.77 an hour ($66,144 and $81,432 annually). Current state employees' pay will be based on the provisions in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. This classification is in Pay Schedule 12, Pay Range 63.

Job Details

WDVA will conduct criminal background checks prior to an offer of hire.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship) at the time of application. The WDVA does not sponsor work or student visas, either at time of hire or at any later time.

Due to the nature of this position's duties, work locations at times may include jail, prisons, probation facilities, and facilities that serve homeless populations.

These positions will require frequent travel primarily within their assigned region, and occasional statewide travel, which may necessitate driving and/or working in remote areas. These positions may also periodically work evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have a current licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Wisconsin.
