We are building a highly available, highly scalable, low latency and cost effective storage platform with an integrated computation framework that powers the Amazon retail and digital business.

Every single product page, offer, search result, order, and fulfillment at Amazon.com depends on our data platform systems. Our flagship product, SABLE, is at the core of Amazon.com retail infrastructure. It handles more than 400 billion requests per day from Amazon.com websites, Web Services, and internal Amazon systems. Multiple tier-1 services contributing to the growth of Amazon businesses use SABLE to store customer orders, product information, and subscriptions to serve to Amazon customers in real time. The performance and availability of SABLE is critical to the smooth running of Amazon business. We run one of the largest fleets in Amazon and SABLE is the highest throughput service at Amazon.

What is the challenge? Our mission is to build an integrated storage platform as a hosted service for all aspects of a business application development at Amazon, including multi-tiered storage options, authoritative (primary) storage, caching, pre-computation, on-demand computation, event notification, and search capability. What are we looking for? An experienced Systems Development Engineer with deep level of ownership and distributed systems knowledge with experience in web service and implementation. One that operates independently, flexibly, and proactively. Works collaboratively with TPM, Developer, and Partner teams during the whole product lifecycle, earning their trust and respect. Has a bias for action and delivering results. Has excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Sees the big picture and invents new solutions as well as simplifies existing ones, challenging themselves and others to relentlessly improve.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

- Experience with Linux/Unix

- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

- Experience leading the design, automation, deployment, and support of large-scale infrastructure

- Knowledge of database systems and SQL

- Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
